What You Ought to Know About R&B’s Ray Lavender (Including How He’s Not T-Pain)

RAY LAVENDER WAS THE NEXT BIG ACT UNDER AKON – BUT WHAT HAPPENED? VIDEO HERE!

He’s back.

In 2007, Atlanta-based R&B crooner Ray Lavender released one of the year’s most popular singles “Girl Got A Girlfriend”, and even featured a remix with Red Cafe and Fabolous. A second single was released; however, an album never materialized, even though he was signed to Akon’s Kon Live Music imprint.

Lavender admits, “I didn’t have my stuff together. I just knew how to sing, and I had some hits. You can sing all day and be talented all day, but if you don’t have the proper people in line, then it can mess your whole career up. I don’t see me coming in [with] “Girl Got A Girlfriend”, and I’m out.”

AllHipHop.com caught up with Lavender in New York City to discuss the real reason why his album was shelved, comparisons to his former labelmate T-Pain and their auto-tuning, and the scoop behind his latest buzz single and video, “Tequila”:
