Suge Knight Comes To The Aid Of Two Families

Suge Knight, founder and CEO of Tha Row, is assisting two families in dealing with the murder of two young children. Two year old Osvaldo Martinez was killed at a Burger King in Pomona, while seven-year-old Horace Ray Ferguson was shot in the front yard of his grandmother’s home on Monday, January 20th. Knight is providing funds for the grandparents of Martinez to travel from Mexico to Los Angeles for the funeral, and financially helping the Ferguson family to relocate from their troubled Compton neighborhood to a safer area. "I really feel for these families, and when I heard the news my heart went out to them" Knight told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "Violence in any form is terrible, but violence directed at children is especially horrible. I grew up in Compton, and I know Pomona, and there are good people in both neighborhoods. These kids should never have been killed, but I hope that by helping their families I can set some small example that we must all work together to take care of one another and end such senseless brutality." Knight was preparing to launch his tenth annual holiday toy giveaway when authorities picked him up just before Christmas last year, for allegedly violating his probation.

The driving shoe will be available in Footlocker, Champ’s Sports, Footaction, Athlete’s Foot and other retailers nationwide.

Percee P’s Makin’ It Personal

Bronx rhyming vet Percee P is one of indie rap’s top do-it-yourselfers. The verbal flamethrower known for swift and intricate rhyme schemes actually peddles his album directly to the consumer. Check the sidewalk near New York’s Fat Beats and you’ll probably find him hawking Now and Then, his greatest hits CD. “I make them myself,” Percee P told Allhiphop.com. “They’re songs you can’t even get now.” Among those rare jams are “Lung Collapsing Lyrics” with Pharaoh Monch and "Yes You May" featuring A.G. and Lord Finesse. Check the disc closely and you’ll often find Percee’s signature. “Thanks for the love and support,” Percee typically writes. If you see him in person, he’ll sign upon request and those who cop his album on-line often end up with signed copies as well. Last year, Percee collaborated with Jurassic 5 and Wildchild. After checking those tunes, Percee says fans can learn about his storied past through his self made discs. “They’ll wonder who’s Percee P. That’s where the CD comes in,” says Percee. “Some of [the tracks] is old, but what’s old to them is new to somebody else.” Percee’s currently featured on “Unstoppable,” a cut with Planet Asia on JS-1’s Ground Original album. In addition, an international trek with Wildchild is being discussed. Though plans for that elusive new LP are sketchy, he lists Madlib, DJ Babu, Cut Chemist, Easy Mo Bee, Diamond D and Moe Love as possible beatmakers. Although several labels have shown interest in the Rhyme Inspector, he’s biding his time until the right offer presents itself. “Everybody’s talkin’,” he says. “Until I can really see the paperwork, then it’s just talk.”

"I started Priority back in 1985 because I saw a lot of frustrated creative people who weren’t getting the opportunities they deserved. There were so many restrictions. It seemed like nobody was ever willing to say, ‘Yeah, let’s just try something.’ I still see that."

Eminem’s Oscar Buzz: Is He Being Snubbed?

Universal Pictures has started an ad campaign on behalf of Eminem’s#### movie, "8 Mile," in various trade magazines and in New York and Los Angeles trade newspapers, aimed at the voting body of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that votes on Oscars. The body is now casting their ballots for best picture and honcho’s at Universal are worried about Eminem’s Oscar buzz, which is almost none, despite the movie being released to critical acclaim and grossing almost $116 million in North American box office receipts. The ad asks "If a film sheds light on vibrant but largely misunderstood aspect of our culture and…provokes a stunning number of editorials and commentaries," should it not be considered? The advertisement implies that there may be a huge generation gap between the voting board and those who love hip-hop music, which fueled the film’s phenomenal success. "8 Mile" could also be suffering from the film’s star and his lack of participation in Hollywood circles. According to the Los Angeles Times, Eminem is unwilling to attend the clamorous industry events or conduct valuable question and answer sessions at movie screenings. "It’s not like he gives a damn whether he gets this stuff or not," Paul Rosenberg told the Los Angeles Times. "He certainly doesn’t want to be seen as a movie star. He wants to be seen, first and foremost, as dedicated to music. He doesn’t want to walk around on the red carpet. That is not his style. That’s not what he wants to be." Eminem’s casual attitude aside, Universal executives believe that Eminem’s picture should have more Oscar related buzz. "This movie was really on everybody’s radar [when it came out]," said Adam Folgeson, Universal’s President of Marketing. "Now, for whatever reasons, "8 Mile" seems to be "out of the discussion pool. "How can a film that generated those kind of reviews, that generated those kind of editorials and commentaries, have fallen off everybody’s radar?"" The ballots for Oscar candidates are due Wednesday, January 29, while the nominations will be announced February 11.

Jay-Z And 50 Cent Alive And Well

Pranksters sent a wave of fear through the hip-hop community via a fake CNN website, which reported that rappers 50 Cent and Jay-Z were murdered. "Jay-Z is in f*cking Switzerland right now," Russell Simmons told AllHipHop.com. "This sh*t isn’t true. 50 Cent was just on New York radio too." The URL was cleverly designed to mimic the CNN.com URL, fooling many users into believing a report that 50 Cent and Jay-Z were both killed in Los Angeles. According to the poorly written report, 50 Cent was shot 3 times of shots by a semiautomatic rifle and that Jay-Z died of a stab wound to the neck. The bogus report stated that the rappers were killed in the lobby of an unnamed Los Angeles hotel lobby and that two suspects remained at large. These reports are false. The fake CNN News Generator," enables people to post fake news on what appears to be the official CNN website.

A Brooklyn, New York city councilman will lead a protest in front of Hot 97 today (Jan. 26) to have embattled R&B singer R. Kelly removed from the radio stations playlist. "We all should be concerned about who our children listen to," Davis told Newsday. Kelly was arrested on Wednesday in Miami, Florida, after police allegedly found 12 digital images stored on a camera in his house.

Suge Knight Hit With Lawsuit, Loses $25 Million Judgment

Suge Knight was hit with a multi-million dollar lawsuit by his former legal team. The McPherson & Kalmansohn law firm accuse Knight of cheating them out of more that $600,000 in legal fees in the 90’s. Last month, former Death Row Records artist Daz Dillinger and a Philadelphia based company, Organized Crime Family, won a default judgment of $25 million dollars against Knight over unpaid royalties. "You b*tch I got you for 25 million you sucker, f*ck you, f*ck Michelle, f*ck Reginald Wright and all you slob ass n*ggas on Death Row," Daz said. "Kurupt you b*tch ass n*gga, you are getting 10 G’s a month and…fittin to get fired," Daz continued. He also lashed out at Benzino, co-founder of The Source. "Benzino you a b*tch ass motherf*cker for putting my sh*t on your album without my permission, I am down with Eminem, 50 Cent and we gonna keep this sh*t going real hard," Daz said Industry insiders stated that Knight may have to forfeit the valuable Death Row Records back catalog, which includes hit from Dr. Dre, Tha Dogg Pound, Snoop Dogg and others. "You sit your b*tch ass in jail, put that vaseline in your booty and..cream on yourself and let the C.O.’s punch ya," Daz concluded.

Lil’ Wayne And Nivea: A Happy Couple

Pop princess Nivea has come forth to declare that she and Cash Money Millionaire Lil’ Wayne are a serious couple. The singer, who got her big break on Mystikal’s “Danger,” refused to admit that she and Wayne were engaged, as insiders have speculated. But she did acknowledge that the pair was excited to be together and are currently working towards a fruitful union. “Well I can tell you that, yes, we are together. And that’s about it. I just read like our first little bad rumor thing, we knew it was coming, but I just heard it on Allhiphop.com, and I was like, “Uhhh!” and we both laughed about it. It’s whatever, it’s crazy,” Nivea said laughing. Despite the talk, Nivea told AllHipHop that the rumors fail to anger her or her boo. “We was laughing about it. He was like, ‘Whatever. Love You. Bye.’” That’s the end of it. We are trying to maintain. It’s hard, but we’re doing it,” she said. “We’re really trying to make it work.” Like the constant chatter of gossipmongers, Nivea said the inquiring minds of the media nor the haters would stop the pair from achieving romantic bliss. “The media is just now knowing about it. We didn’t want them to say anything. The haters come pouring like rain, but I’m tired of the question. I’m like, ‘Look, yes! We are together. We are dating. Yes, we see each other whenever we can. You know, whatever.’” And we’re happy.

XXL Backs Eminem

XXL magazine has dropped its latest issue, which boasts a cover story that features 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre and attacks the integrity of rival The Source Magazine. The issue also features a rebuttal to Source co-owner Ray Benzino’s criticisms of the white rapper, who he deems a poster boy for the ills in the music industry. In an editorial entitled “Back Down,” XXL editor-in-chief Elliot Wilson charged that his competitors have compromised their journalistic reliability in their current issue with Ja Rule on the cover. In the issue of The Source, it features an editorial by Harry “Media Assassin” Allen that likens Eminem to Elvis, a number of other pictorial disses and an editorial that responds to XXL’s numerous jabs at The Source. Wilson, who has waged a long-term feud with The Source, queried, “…The magazine that [Ray Benzino] supposedly has no editorial input in decides to back Benzino’s claim that Eminem’s success is bad for hip-hop. Why are Dave Mays and is F-Troop trying to discredit a great MC that they supported from the jump?” In a previous interview, Benzino defended his allegations against Eminem, but more specifically said his problems were more with the music industry as a whole. “Right now with mainstream giving the double standard [and] our creativity is sacrificed. Because we have to make a certain type of song to get it played on the radio or video, whereas he’s putting out anything he wants,” he said. “I’m saying make it a even playing field.” In song, Benzino’s claims are outlined in a different manner. “The only M&M I know is Made Men /and by the way, [Eminem] ain’t never gonna play me, never/I’ll show this b*tch really what it is to be Shady/I don’t care how much records you sold/You can’t walk through the hood without the men in black,” he spit in a freestyle. In turn, Eminem responded with a pair of vicious disses called “Nail In The Coffin” and “I Don’t Wanna.” However, to further back their opposition against The Source’s stance, XXL boasts a variety of statements from hip-hop stars that back Eminem for his talents as an MC and his noteworthy contributions to hip-hop. Fat Joe said, “Eminem is super-nice. That’s the main part of the whole thing. Eminem is dumb nice how could you even diss him?” Even the quarrelling Kings of New York agreed on this one the topic. Jay-Z explained, “In my opinion it’s not even an issue. I mean he can rhyme. The guys got skills. If he didn’t have skills, I’d say the guy is stealing from under the table, but he is good to go. I’m sure his race has something to do with the numbers that he does but there is just no denying his talent.” Likewise Nas, stated, “All of this is just beautiful hype for Eminem’s new album. When his new sh*t drops he’s gonna sell like Thiller. He’s white, and he knows it. And the beauty of it is that he puts it into his music all the time. I love what Eminem is doing for hip-hop…the larger he gets, the larger hip-hop gets…”
