Review: Michael Jackson – Michael

Michael Jackson has always been an inspiration musically for artists all over the world. If that compliment was given to any other person, it would be cliché and tired, but with Michael it will always ring true in our lifetime. All legal troubles aside, MJ always excelled at entertaining his fans and winning over the respect of his peers. He’s always put such a high standard on his livelihood, and it’s always reflected in his music and in his live performances. It is that high standard that makes his posthumous debut that much more average as opposed to being the amazing project that MJ is known to release. Michael debuts ten new songs from the legendary pop singer, but none truly seem to capture the feeling that any of his older albums projected. The album has a definite pop sound to it. The production from Teddy Riley, Neff-U, Tricky, Lenny Kravitz, and Michael himself help to solidify that aspect; even the slow ballads retain that pop element. The features are few, but the high quality of the cameos fit well into the theme of each song. “Hold My Hand” is a nice duet alongside Akon and his production, while 50 Cent gets completely busy on the speaker-pounding “Monster” and Lenny Kravitz gives MJ a big assist on “(I Can’t Make It) Another Day.” The song content is original as well, and there’s no real fault with the song lyrics and arrangements as well, aside from the overuse of the ad-libs in the production of “Monster. The real issue however, is the credibility of the singing. There are several instances where the vocalist doesn’t sound entirely like Michael Jackson. Although the songs are solid for what they are, the production is well-rounded, and the features all boost their respective songs, you can never really buy into the fact that the person singing is truly MJ. It’s not a specific instance you can pinpoint, but if you’ve listened to MJ over the years and then you hear this LP, it’s something that you can hear, and the issue permeates throughout the entire project. Integrity issues aside, Michael is still a CD well worth picking up for the initial listen. Even though on paper it sounds like a great idea to present the album the way they did, it’s nothing like the old Mike that we all love. If you’re looking for an album that reminds you of the Michael Jackson of the past, Amazon has a few great deals on the 25th Anniversary Edition of Thriller that will get the job done much more efficiently.

Hip-Hop Rumors: 50 Cent Hustles Snow, Rick Ross in Africa, Chris Tucker & Friday!?

DISCLAIMER:All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.WHO: illseedWHAT: Rumors, Funnies, Fails and more!WHERE: illseed.com, twitter.com.illseedHOW: Send your rumors, sightings and ill pics to illseed at allhiphoprumors@gmail.com.OK, I’M BACK…SORTA I got sick and tired of doing snow angels so I decided to return to the rumors even though I’m supposed to be off until the new year. Here is some stuff that I scooped up. I don’t wanna hear any yap about stuff being old or whatever I am doing wrong this time. 50 CENT SHOVELS SNOW? As you know, we are in the midst of the blizzard of 2010 on the East Coast. There are some poor New Yorkers that are were stuck in subway trains. NY needs to get better prepared about their snow. Anyway, 50 Cent is not one to pass up a business opportunity. The G-Unit Master went out in his Connecticut suburb and volunteered to shovel his neighbors’ driveways. 50 tweeted that he charged $100 a driveway and used lil kids to get more work. He says he paid the kids $30 per hour. I’d pay for that! IRS TRACKS DOWN TRICK DADDY! Remember that thing called the Hip-Hop Police Unit? Well, the IRS has something similar now. They are going around and they are chasing celebs for the money that they supposedly owe the government. Trick Daddy is the latest victim. They are saying that Trick Dad owes them $157k in back taxes! I don’t care what anybody says…that’s a lot of money! They foreclosed on his home back in May and are looking to collect. RICK ROSS IS IN AFRICA! Rick Ross is on deck out there in Cape Town, South Africa. I heard he’ll be there for a special show, says my homey Black Faff. Yeap. And, I am hearing that Ross may actually be staying over there to bring in the New Year in the motherland. BACK TO NELLY AND YOUNG MONEY! I’m probably going to leave this alone soon, but I thought I would go back to the original rumor. A DJ recently interviewed Nelly and it produced some interesting rumors about him going to YM. Apparently, the interview went well. Nelly was on there promoting a concert with him, Dipset, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne. (Strange concert, I know!) Well, the DJ latched on to my rumor and asked Nelly what about him signing with Young Money. Well, I heard Nelly laughed it off and said “Anything is possible.” Somebody told me that Wayne is signing legendary Cali group Above The Law, but I refuse to believe that. ILLSEED’S QUICKIES Remember that girl that got her hair burnt in that Diddy video? Diddy has volunteered to buy her some new hair. Rumor has it, Lil Kim got more plastic surgery over the Christmas break. Chris Tucker says he’s not doing another “Friday” movie. Chris Brown was so nice to have Lil Mama at a recent showcase. The problem is, she got booed off stage. I saw the pics and she didn’t look bad at all. That stunt she pulled ruined her. A lot of people hit me up on the Rihanna rumor. It didn’t originate with me, but like I said on Twitter, you never know how a deal is structured. She may have had specific instructions and its possible that Kodak violated something. REST IN PEACE…Teena Marie. I couldn’t believe the rumor…and for it to be fact hurt. SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END They say the NWO started on Sept. 11….well, it is really kicking in now. I have been informed that there is a mounting military presence within the United States. Word is, there are about 10,000 combat ready service members ready to rock-n-roll if you happen to get out of line. Apparently, these soldiers will be ready to take down anybody that shows signs of “civil unrest.” The good news? They will be armed with lethal and non-lethal weapons. Lethal is tanks and hot lead. Non-lethal is rubber bullets and bean bag bullets. Some will die and some will have a body of bruises. TEENA MARIE WE LOVE YOU!  They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!
