(AllHipHop News) Fans of Young Jeezy are mourning the rapper’s career on Twitter today. Jeezy hit the social media platform, to reveal he would release one more album and then he is calling it quits. “As the Cold Summer tour comes to a end..It was inspiring seeing my day one fans since my first album & class TM 101 come out every night. Now class is coming to a end. It’s time for Graduation,” Jeezy tweeted. The Atlanta rap legend then told his followers that his next album will be his last. “My Last Album & Final Class: TM104 -#TrustYaProcess,” Jeezy wrote. Jeezy’s major label debut Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 was the inaugural release in his Thug Motivation series of albums and it opened at #2 on the charts and eventually went platinum. His next album The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 hit #1 upon its release in December of 2006 and is certified platinum, selling over 1 million copies. TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition dropped in December of 2011 and landed at #3 on the US Billboard 200, and has since moved over 500,000 copies, earning a gold certification. The trio of albums produce a number of hits for Jeezy, including “Go Crazy,” “I Luv It,” “Go Getta” (featuring R. Kelly), ‘I Do” and others. The businessman/rapper recently banked millions of dollars after Tequila Avion, the liquor brand he is an investor in, was sold to the multi-billion dollar global spirits brand, Pernod Ricard. Jeezy said he plans to remain involved in Avion’s growth until at least 2020. Regardless, Jeezy’s fans were not too happy that he is planning on recording his “last” album.

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is facing a legal battle with a Chinese company over the rights to sell clothing using his Yeezy brand. The rapper has owned the trademark to his Yeezy footwear brand since 2013 but lost the official rights to sell Yeezy clothing last year. He has since filed documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to reclaim the mark for use selling apparel, but has run into trouble as a Chinese firm named Fujian Baby Network Technology Co. swooped in and trademarked the term ‘Yeezy Boost’, the name of the shoes the hip-hop star designs for Adidas, as a clothing brand. A letter from Trademark Office officials to bosses at Kanye’s Mascotte Holdings company states that they have suspended his application due to the “likelihood of confusion” with the Yeezy Boost brand. Kanye’s application, which was filed last August, two months after the Chinese company’s, states that he is looking to sell everything from T-shirts and blazers to babywear and hosiery using the Yeezy name. The rapper, 40, launched his first Yeezy clothing collection, in collaboration with Adidas Originals in 2015, and is currently preparing to debut his seventh season of apparel. Kim Kardashian’s husband does still hold the rights to sell Yeezy footwear – and last month filed documents seeking to trademark his Red October shoes, the name of the final sneakers he designed for Nike before his switch to Adidas in 2013. The potential battle over the rights to his brand isn’t the only legal fight Kanye is facing, as bosses at his company Yeezy Apparel have been accused of copying a camouflage design from a rival firm. Bosses at Jordan Outdoor Enterprises claim a representative from the company contacted them and asked to use their Realtree line design, but that the pattern was allegedly copied without their permission. They are seeking unspecified damages and an order to stop Kanye selling existing merchandise bearing the design.

(AllHipHop News) Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have lost their appeal to overturn a plagiarism verdict linked to their “Blurred Lines” hit. Marvin Gaye’s heirs took the stars to court in 2015 after accusing them of copying their late father’s 1977 song “Got to Give It Up.” They were awarded a massive $7.4 million verdict, but the figure was later reduced to $5.3 million. Thicke and Williams appealed and now lawmakers have ruled the judgment against the pair should stand, with Judge Milan Smith insisting there was not “an absolute absence of evidence” of similarity between Gaye’s song and the 2013 hit. The judges overseeing the appeal also agreed with the jury that rapper T.I. was not liable for infringement after contributing a verse to “Blurred Lines.” As part of their appeal, Thicke and Williams’ lawyers argued a “groove” could not be copyrighted. “A ‘groove’ or ‘feeling’ cannot be copyrighted, and inspiration is not copying,” a brief filed a year ago read. During the Los Angeles trial three years ago, the musicians denied the infringement allegations but openly admitted to being inspired by Gaye’s work. The Gayes’ attorneys insisted the songwriters did not deserve the opportunity to appeal or try the case again.

(AllHipHop News) R&B singer Jacquees was arrested last night in Miami after cops tried to stop him in his Lamborghini. Police claim they attempted to stop the “B.E.D.” hitmaker along trendy Ocean Drive after they noticed he was not wearing a seatbelt. Cops say they attempted to stop Jacquees, born Jacquees Broadnax, but he ignored their orders to pull over and he simply just kept on driving. After he finally stopped, Jacquees allegedly refused to produce his driver’s license and engaged in a back and forth with the officers, where he yelled “don’t touch me” as a large crowd gathered around the scene. Additional officers were called in to assist in arresting Jacquees, who was eventually charged with failure to obey a lawful command, and for the seat belt infraction.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper XXXtentacion has been given permission to head out on tour while serving house arrest. The star’s lawyer urged the judge overseeing his case to relax the restrictions surrounding his confinement, based on good behavior, and allow the rapper to promote his new material on the road – and the lawmaker agreed. XXXTentacion, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, will now have to submit to monthly drug tests and report his travel plans. In return, he will be able to remove his ankle monitor and head out on tour. The “Look At Me!” hitmaker was placed under house arrest after being hit with 15 new felony charges for what prosecutors believe to be witness tampering by coercing his girlfriend into not testifying against him

(AllHipHop News) Marvel officials are planning to further cash in on the Black Panther craze by launching a comic book spin-off for the Dora Milaje, the all-female, shaven, tattooed army for the fictional African nation of Wakanda. The three-part series, titled Wakanda Forever, will give the special forces group leader Okoye, and fellow warriors Ayo, and Aneka their own story arcs and will be written by “Black Panther: Long Live the King” author Nnedi Okorafor. Okoye was portrayed onscreen by “The Walking Dead” star Danai Gurira, while actress Florence Kasumba played Ayo. Aneka wasn’t featured in director Ryan Coogler’s movie.

(AllHipHop News) Rap star XXXTentacion is asking a judge to free him, so he can go on tour to support his latest album. X dropped his album ? on March 16, but he’s been hampered in his promotions and limited mostly to social media, as he complies with a court-ordered house arrest. XXXTentacion is facing 15 felony charges, including witness tampering, relating to his 2016 arrest for domestic violence. The troubled star was jailed again in Florida in December of 2017 for violating his bail. Prosecutors accused XXXTentacion of coercing his ex-girlfriend to get her to not testify against him, in an attempt to have charges of battery against a pregnant woman and false imprisonment against him dropped. The rapper says he needs to hit the road to pay for his mounting legal bills.

(AllHipHop News) A groundbreaking album by Run-DMC has been selected for preservation in America’s Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Run-DMC’s beloved 1986 album Raising Hell and Harry Belafonte’s Calypso, and the soundtrack to the 1965 film “The Sound of Music” were among the albums selected for inclusion. Raising Hell thrust Run-DMC to mainstream success, with “Walk This Way,” a collaboration with rockers Aerosmith, its biggest hit. Speaking to The Washington Post about the significance of that track and the album, the hip-hop group’s Reverend Run, real name Joseph Simmons, said, “It (‘Walk This Way’) spun us out of control huge. It definitely pushed that album over the top to make us universal.” A number of famous songs will also be inducted into the Library, including Kenny Loggins’ theme song from the movie “Footloose,” Kenny Rogers’, “The Gambler,” Chic’s disco classic “Le Freak,” Bill Haley and His Comets’ “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around the Clock,” and Tony Bennett’s “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” America’s National Recording Registry was established in 2002, and each year 25 significant records are selected by members of its board after submissions by the public. Last year’s selections, included albums by N.W.A., The Eagles, and Talking Heads, with Judy Garland’s Over the Rainbow also picked.

The Marvel smash hit, starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular character, was tweeted about more than 35 million times, according to social media figures released on Tuesday. That means “Black Panther” was more popular online than “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which previously held the title following its release in late 2015. The most recent installment of the sci-fi franchise, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” is currently ranked third. According to Twitter analysts, the most tweets about “Black Panther” originated in the U.S., while fans in the U.K. and Thailand came second and third, respectively. “Black Panther” has continued to break box office records since its release last month, and has just secured its fifth straight week atop the North American chart – the first film to do so since “Avatar” in 2009. Its global gross has only continued to grow, earning more than $1.2 billion to date.

(AllHipHop News) Attorneys for incarcerated rapper Meek Mill have filed a motion to have the judge in his probation violation case removed. The “Dreams and Nightmares” hitmaker was sentenced to serve two to four years in prison in November for violating the terms of his probation relating to a 2008 firearms case. Meek, real name Robert Williams, has been challenging the controversial ruling by Judge Genece Brinkley ever since, and on Tuesday, his lawyers reportedly filed legal documents with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to have her pulled off the case. “(This) case involves a pattern of judicial (mis)conduct that has prejudiced the rights of a probationer and threatens to undermine the public’s confidence in the integrity of the judicial system,” the legal filings read. “(Judge Brinkley has) exceeded the judicial role by sometimes essentially acting as a prosecutor and, at other times, taking an unusual interest in, and trying to inject herself into, (Meek Mill’s) personal and professional life.” According to reports, Meek’s lawyers allege Judge Brinkley has commented on the case publicly, through her legal representatives, and has threatened legal action against his management and legal teams. The new legal filings come a day after Williams’ lawyers appealed to court officials to grant the rapper bail on Monday. Last week prosecutors declared they will not block his latest release attempt following reports suggesting the arresting officer in Meek’s original 2008 case had been named as part of a police corruption scandal in Philadelphia, and had been accused of lying under oath to put the MC behind bars. Prosecutors cited the “strong showing of likelihood” that Meek’s old conviction will be reversed in court paperwork, while explaining their decision and the rapper’s attorneys highlighted the statement as they asked for their client’s immediate release.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Nas and his ex-wife Kelis have reportedly agreed to share legal and physical custody of their son. The MC accused his ex of only allowing him visitation with their son Knight when it was convenient for her last year, and he asked a judge to put an official custody schedule in place in November. The issue was quickly resolved after he and Kelis reached a visitation settlement, with Kelis granting her ex weekends with his son. However, the custody dispute heated up again last month, when she claimed the rapper should be paying her more than the $8,000 -a-month in child support they agreed upon five years ago, when their son Knight was three, insisting her parental needs had changed over the years since the deal was signed. Kelis hasn’t come up with a specific figure but she does want her ex to pay half of all Knight’s education, childcare and health-related costs. The dispute over child support has yet to be settled, but sources claim the former couple has agreed to joint custody. The agreement comes a couple weeks after Kelis, who divorced Nas in 2010, revealed she is planning to relocate her family to the country to open a restaurant on her farm. “In this past year I’ve kinda felt like I need a restaurant,” she told the Founder Hour podcast. “I need a space where I can actually be creative and I can do this on a daily basis… We started looking for a farm. We found a property. And we’re going to start to grow everything.”

(AllHipHop News) Cardi B doesn’t think women in hip-hop will reap the benefits of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. Both #MeToo and Time’s Up were created in the wake of the sexual harassment allegations leveled at power players in Hollywood, including Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and James Toback. The music world has also embraced the anti-sexual harassment movements, and although 25-year-old Cardi is pleased to see the topic being discussed, she isn’t convinced the message will fully filter through to hip-hop stars, whose sexuality is often part of their commercial appeal. “A lot of video vixens (females in hip-hop videos) have spoke about this and nobody gives a f##k,” Cardi sighed to Cosmopolitan U.S. “When I was trying to be a vixen, people were like, ‘You want to be on the cover of this magazine?’ Then they pull their d##ks out. I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a hoe. It don’t matter.’” The rapper also shared her cynicism towards some of the men who are publicly voicing their support for the campaigns. “These producers and directors, they’re not woke (socially aware), they’re scared,” she insisted. Later in the chat with Cosmopolitan, Cardi opened up about her success in music, which includes receiving two Grammy nominations and a number one spot in the U.S. charts for her single “Bodak Yellow.” However, Cardi admits fame can have its downsides. “Having a number one song makes me happy—but working for it makes me really happy,” she smiled. “I don’t want to sound like I’m ungrateful, but it’s exhausting. I love my career now, but it’s like my spirit was happier before. When I was dancing, I had so much fun. I felt powerful in the club.
