(AllHipHop News) The mother of jailed rapper Meek Mill has begged Philadelphia’s District Attorney to help free her son. Meek, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, was controversially jailed in Pennsylvania for two to four years last summer for probation violations relating to a decade old firearms case. The 30-year-old’s sentence has been heavily criticized by Meek’s supporters, who include fellow rapper Jay-Z. Ahead of a criminal justice panel at the University of Pennsylvania’s Irvine Auditorium in Philadelphia on Tuesday his mother Kathy Williams held a news conference calling for her son to be freed, and asked the city’s District Attorney (D.A.) Larry Krasner to intervene in his case. “I’m begging the D.A. Krasner,” a tearful Kathy told the Philadelphia Inquirer at the press event. “Can you please help me out?” Meek’s lawyers have appealed against the harsh punishment claiming Genece Brinkley, the judge who handed him the sentence, was biased against him. The “Ima Boss” rapper’s representatives have previously called on the D.A. to intervene, but it is the first time the hip-hop star’s mother has spoken out about her son’s case. Kathy joined those who have slammed Judge Brinkley for her decision to jail her son, saying, “I don’t even understand how he’s been on probation for that many years. It’s like he murdered somebody. He has to beg to see his son. What kind of woman does that? Is she a mother? Do she have a mother?” Meek has spent a decade on probation for the firearm offense as it was extended in 2013 for earlier violations. He was jailed after pleading guilty to two offenses, fighting at St. Louis International Airport in Missouri, and recklessly driving his motorcycle in New York City. The sentence came as a surprise to many observers, as prosecutors had recommended he be spared a prison term.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper T.I. has reportedly settled his $1.4 million tax debt. The hip-hop star, real name Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris owed back taxes from income they earned in 2012, but according to reports, the lien was paid off earlier this month. Tiny is reportedly now free of tax debt, but T.I. still owes $3.2 million for 2013 earnings and $1.6 million for 2014. In January, the rapper reportedly dropped his bid to block the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from seizing his assets to pay his tax debts. He owed a total of $6.2 million in back taxes and government officials informed him they would begin seizing his assets to pay off his debts. T.I. and Tiny filed documents requesting a review of the IRS decision, but their motions were dismissed because they missed the filing deadline. The couple appealed the dismissal, blaming a delivery service for the delay, but T.I. and Tiny then filed to dismiss their appeal because they were in discussions with IRS lawyers. The case was subsequently closed but the debts remained active. Tameka, 42, and T.I., 37, have been through turbulent times in recent years – the Xscape singer filed for divorce in 2016. They have since reconciled and in January, Tameka confirmed they were “working at” their relationship.

The power couple just announced their ‘‘On the Run II’’ tour, which will kick off on July 25 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Each concert on the 21-date outing is taking place at a different football stadium, to accommodate the large crowds that are being anticipated. According to representatives at Fenway Park in Boston, the venue was turned down to host the ‘‘On the Run II’’ date in their city on August 5th. Instead, entertainment’s richest and most famous couple chose the end zone at Gillette Stadium, since the tour is “specially designed for larger-capacity football stadiums.” Reports suggest this summer’s international ‘‘On the Run II’’ could take in as much as $200 million. ​ ​

(AllHipHop News) Snoop Dogg’s venture firm recently closed its first round of funding. The rap star’s Casa Verde Capital has raised a total of $45 million dollars to invest in early-stage startups focused on the emerging cannabis industry and others outside of the marijuana business. So far, Snoop’s company has made eight investments and he’s looking to put no less than $1,000,000 into the companies he takes an interest in. Snoop tapped a business associate named Karan Wadhera – a former executive from Goldman Sachs – to raise the money and oversee Casa Verde Capital’s investments. “We have a decent-size checkbook and a fairly high profile in this space, so we see a fair amount of inbound,” managing partner Karan Wadhera told TechCrunch. “We also have a strong network among cultivators and retailers and brands in the industry, and we’re constantly leveraging them to find new opportunities.” Those businesses hoping to secure funding from Snoop to cultivate weed or are involved in dispensaries will be disappointed. “We’re only focused on the ancillary part of the cannabis industry, so we won’t invest in companies that touch the plants. No dispensaries or cultivators or manufacturers. We’re investing in the picks and shovels,” Karan Wadhera said.

Kelis lawyer Navid Moshtael filed legal documents claiming the Queen’s rapper’s lawyer called him a “fattie” and a “d##k” on the record, and in front of several clients during a recent deposition. The allegations were contained in a new legal document Moshtael filed in a custody battle over their son Knight, which seems to have flared back up after the couple reached a settlement in January. Last month, Kelis filed more legal documents asking a court to increase the $8,000 a month child support bill the rapper currently pays for eight-year-old Knight.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Juelz Santana has been ordered to remain behind bars after surrendering to police for a series of gun charges. The rapper, real name LaRon James, became a wanted man after fleeing from Newark International Airport on Friday (March 9), when a loaded firearm was allegedly discovered in his bag, beside his ID card, at a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. He turned himself in to cops at the Port Authority Police Department in the early hours of Monday (March 12) and was booked for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft, both of which carry a 10-year maximum sentence. Santana, 36, was also booked for unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of drugs, and on an unspecified federal warrant. He appeared before Magistrate Judge Joseph Dickson on Monday afternoon, when Santana was remanded in federal custody pending his preliminary hearing on March 26. Santana was previously convicted of manufacturing and selling drugs in 2013, which bans him from carrying a gun.

(AllHipHop News) Rap mogul Suge Knight has dismissed a lawyer who was charged in a conspiracy to bribe witnesses, in connection with his forthcoming murder trial. Suge appeared in court today to dismiss Thaddeus Culpepper, a member of the Death Row founder’s defense team, who was arrested and charged with accessory to murder after the fact. “Culpepper is off the case,” Suge Knight announced during a court hearing today (March 12). In January, Thaddeus Culpepper and another attorney named Matthew Fletcher were detained by the LAPD, for supposedly trying to bribe witnesses. Fletcher is charged with working with Suge to spend as much as $25,000 to a group of bikers to make false statements to bolster’s Suge’s argument that he was being targeted for assassination. During the hearing today, Suge said Matthew Fletcher warned him not to hire white attorney’s, yet Fletcher has snagged power lawyer Mark Geragos to defend him in the bribery case. “‘Don’t mess with these white attorneys’,” Suge said Matthew Fletcher insisted. “Next thing I know, he got [Mark] Geragos,” Knight said. “I feel like the movie ‘Crash.’” Thaddeus Culpepper was arrested for allegedly attempting to pay for positive testimony for Suge Knight, but the man ended up being an informant. Suge Knight is facing murder and attempted murder charges for running over two men during an exchange at a burger stand in Los Angeles in January of 2015. Terry Carter was killed during and Cle “Bone” Sloan sustained severe injuries. Suge is slated to announce new lawyers during a hearing on March 23.

Fab was the headliner of the Spring Break Takeover concert in Allentown, which also feature performances by PnB Rock, A Boogie wit da Hoodie and Albee Al The Gladiator. The evening started off late, and although PnB Rock and A Boogie gave spirited performances, Fab’s set was cut to 15 minutes due to time constraints. Fans who paid anywhere from $40 to $200 for their tickets were upset, and tempers boiled over after the Spring Break Takeover let out.
