[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5svXAZ9-Qk&w=640&h=360] With producers and collaborators including Frank Ocean, Marion Winans, Jim Jonsin, and Tha Bizness, this has the potential to be the year’s best listen. Alicia Keys Releases Original Lyric Video for “Not Even The King”

The Grammy-winning R&B superstar is prepping the release of her fifth album, Girl on Fire, and as she puts it, it will be her most “empowering” work. On “Not Even The King”, a beat never drops. Instead, we hear Keys croon over the keys in this 3-minute track. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahsFa6AYRaQ&w=640&h=360] The singer performed the title track on the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards this past Sunday, with a special appearance from Nicki Minaj and Olympic gold medalist, Gabby Douglass. Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire hits stores this November.

Q-Parker Does Something Unusual for Today’s R&B – He Sings!

R&B singer and former 112-member Q Parker is back in the studio creating new music, like the new “Yes”, a ’90s-inspired track that smoothly showcases the crooner’s vocals. In our most recent interview with Q Parker, he reveals he’s releasing his Southern hospitality this time around: “I’m an ATL-born, bred, Southern gentlemen. I’m a romantic at heart, and I make my music for women, and I believe that women need a go-to-guy. They need a guy, a male artist, that’s making music for them. Forget trying to be in the club, forget trying to pop bottles, but just really sing and croon, for the women. They’re lacking that.” [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/57901664″ params=”auto_play=false&show_artwork=true&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /] “Too many times, as R&B artists, our main focus is what’s going on the other side within the Hip-Hop industry. We have to go get this rapper and be in the club, put them up in the VIP and all that kind of stuff, whereas, we’re leaving these women still wanting more from male artists. I took all that into consideration and I said, ‘You know what? I’m going to be their go-to-guy.’ When they hear my records, they know it’s going to be designed specifically for them,” Q Parker added. With the single “Yes” picking up steam, that could secure a soon release for Q Parker’s The MANual. We need it. R&B needs it. Music needs it.

Lloyd and Wale Aim for Another Hit Collabo on “All of Me”

R&B singer Lloyd must live in the studio, because even if there’s no new album in sight, he remains relevant by releasing music directly to his fans. This time, the 26-year-old releases “All of Me”, a slow jam featuring MMG rapper – and sometimes poet – Wale. Listen to the track here: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-CNKdysXpo&w=640&h=360] Is this better than their previous collabos?

Dawn Richard Shines Exotic in "Wild N' Faith" Visual

The message here is simple: Dawn Richard isn’t going anywhere. R&B singer, and former Bad Boy Records/Diddy Dirty Money artist Dawn Richard has been hard at work since her release from her former label, leading an independent movement with her “Hearts,”  and producing her most-profiled material yet, the Armor On mixtape, earlier this year. The video for “Wild N’ Faith”, directed by Marina & The Diamonds director, ELY, gives us another look at Dawn’s futuristic style and movement ability. The visual finds this former New Orleans Hornet dancer giving little room for error, moving and providing near-perfect choreography that rivals any of her competitors. Yep, including Beyonce. Check the video: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjXt8vksmdw&w=640&h=360] Dawn is prepping her solo debut album, Goldenheart, for an October 16 release.

And, to make things even cooler, Miguel posted the tracklist on his Instagram.com page. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dM5QYdTo08&w=640&h=360]

Grammy-winning producer and singer Ne-Yo recently opened up in Vevo’s original segment titled “Music Is My Sport”, a project that profiles artists’ athletic side, and showcases Ne-Yo during the intense workout he does to stay in shape. “My regime demands total focus. I work day and night, every day of the year,” said Ne-Yo. “My career is a marathon, not a spring. Early on I was completely content with being the guy behind the guy, but over time priorities have changed. Now, I’m the guy, so I’ve had to up my game.” Peep the full segment below: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o3Sa_UOdOM&w=640&h=360]

Faith Evans Makes Big Return on "R&B Divas" And Drops New Single "Tears of Joy"

R&B singer Faith Evans is back in the spotlight as lead cast member of TV One’s “R&B Divas”, and now she’s releasing a new album of the same name. The first single? “Tears of Joy”, a hard-hitting ballad giving us the best of Faith Evans. Written by Grammy nominated songwriter Claude Kelly and produced by Chuck Harmony, this track pulls out the best in Evans and sheds light on one of music’s brightest voices. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/56896124″ params=”auto_play=false&show_artwork=true&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /] Heavily inspired by her friend, Whitney Houston, proceeds from the album will benefit the Whitney E. Jordin Sparks Speaks Candidly on "Sparkle" and Working With Whitney Houston

The Old School, big screen remake finds her paired with the late icon Whitney Houston and a cast of her up and coming entertainment peers. Sean Paul Continues International Dancehall Takeover with “Tomahawk Technique”

Twelve years after his debut album, Sean Paul still knows how to get a party started (and keep it going) on his latest effort Tomahawk Technique (Atlantic Records). Sean Paul doesn’t drop an album every year, but when he does release a studio effort, you know it’s ready for replay – and that’s what one listen to his fifth studio album Tomahawk Technique lets you know. Last night at the Darby in New York City, Sean Paul previewed his new album, which has already been released internationally, to a group of industry tastemakers, of whom were in good spirits mostly due to Paul’s live set. The singer performed favorites like “Get Busy” and his latest on “Hold On”. Also in the building (and in VIP) was record producer Irv Gotti, 105.1 New York radio host Angela Yee, and a host of familiar faces celebrating the release of this dancehall record. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etM7T-JQPrE&w=640&h=360] On Tomahawk Technique, Paul relinquishes his old techniques, with the addition of Euro-pop high tempo dance tracks that immediately produce a fist pump from any listener. Though Paul has found strength in a more energized sound, he remains true to what got it all started from his debut Stage One when “Deport Them” first hit the radio and made American audiences pay attention to this Jamaican don. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbUBMklQSVU&w=640&h=360] On “Hold On”, the song used to personally inspire Jamaican Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt, Sean Paul keeps the grooves coming. He performed “Hold On” live on this night, while giving over 50 direct onlookers a treat as they shook and moved to the beat. They can thank the complimentary Voli Light Lemonade for assisting people with the loosen up. Tomahawk Technique will see a September 2012 release.

R&B singer Trey Songz recently spoke with San Francisco’s KMEL 106 on NeYo’s recent comments saying that the he feels the singer hasn’t reached his “potential.” Well, clearly, Songz does not like these comments, seeing how he and Ne-Yo are friends. A Soulful ’90s Comeback: Former Xscape Member LaTocha Scott Brings Her Voice To NYC

In the early ’90s, certain R&B groups (and certain record labels) ruled the airwaves, and part of that era was super producer Jermaine Dupri and the talented singing quartet, Xscape. Though the group eventually disbanded, there were well-received solo efforts from many of its members. Kandi Burruss is a fixture on reality TV and is a noted songwriter. Tameka “Tiny” Cottle hit the jackpot by marrying rap megastar T.I. years ago. And notably, its lead singer, Latocha Scott, is now in New York City, preparing to kick off her new tour. Scott’s most recent single “Complicated” features Maybach Music Group’s Wale, and immediately pulls you in as she stretches her vocals over the dramatic beat about the complications within her relationship. When we spoke to LaTocha recently, we asked her if she feels her responsibility has changed, and she boldly admits: “We were always ahead of our time with songs like “Understanding”. So now, I just want to make sure I give timeless music. Something they can always listen to later. The same way Anita Baker did for me. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey.” [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWAY7hE8OnQ] On if it’s challenging being a solo artist, Scott says: “I don’t call it challenging. When you love what you do and you’re passionate about it, everything is forever evolving so you definitely have to keep up with the times. For the children, they’re our ears right now at this point. I’ll talk to my son and he’ll say you may want to get on a song with ‘this person’ or ‘that person,’ but changing who I am as a person or my vocal ability, I don’t think I’ll ever do that because that’s not who I am.” On the chance of an Xscape reunion, Scott reveals: “If the stars line up, then, so be it. I would love to do another Xscape reunion.” And though Scott is committed to the music, she spends a lot of her time with her charitable foundation, Golden Girl, where she speaks to young girls about self esteem and self love: “It’s very dear to my heart. It focuses on developing and magnifying self love. I just want to let these young girls know to never let someone else’s negative opinion to become your reality because I didn’t. You can always overcome adversity by just believing in yourself.” Scott’s EP, Complicated: The Truth in the Booth, comes out this August. Her album is scheduled for release at the top of 2013. Check out LaTocha Scott live in New York on Sunday, August 12 at B.B. Kings.
