Chief Keef's Manager Defends Troubled Rapper, Says He's Had A "Wake-up Call"

(AllHipHop News) Chicago rapper Chief Keef has faced serious circumstances in his short music career. The 17-year-old is currently serving a 60-day sentence in juvenile detention on a gun charge. The presiding judge ruled that Keef had violated his probation after appearing in taped interview for Pitchfork at a gun range. [ALSO READ: Hip-Hop Rumors: EXCLUSIVE: Chief Keef Is In Good Hands In Jail!] Keef’s recent incarceration and violent imagery in his lyrics have led to a lot of criticism toward the “Love Sosa” rapper, especially in the wake of the overwhelming violence in his hometown. Keef’s manager, Dro Manuel, recently defended his client in an interview with The Best of Both Offices, saying he felt putting the burden of what’s happening in Chicago on the young rapper was unfair, and that people have a misconception of the real Chief Keef. Manuel insists Keef is not a bad person, but just an entertainer who’s speaking on real life topics. “He’s not the first to put reality-based lyrics [in his music], as far as like talking about what’s going on in the inner-city for real,” said Manuel. “I think that it’s kinda messed up that they wanna blame him for all the murders, all the crime and all this other stuff that’s going on in Chicago.” [ALSO READ: The Creation of Chief Keef: Fixing Chicago’s Teen Murder Culture] While Manuel defends Keef against the idea that he’s in any way responsible for the high murder rate in Chicago, he does say that there is blame to go around- mostly on city officials and the media. “Chicago hasn’t paid attention to Englewood [Chief Keef’s neighborhood] since they thought they were getting the Olympics. That’s when they brought it out to the public like, ‘there’s all these murders happening in Englewood everyday,’ and that kinda backfired on them…after that, they haven’t brought it back up until Chief Keef.” Manuel went on to say that he feels other Chi-town emcees haven’t spoken out enough about the lack of attention to the violent areas of the city, after the failed Olympic bid. “And all of the other rappers that come from Chicago, they know that. They act like they don’t know that, but they know that. These problems have gone on here for a long time.” [ALSO READ: A History of Violence: The Black Gangs of Chicago] Manuel also believes that Keef’s recent legal problems are mostly the fault of other people. When asked if he thought Pitchfork is responsible for Keef getting locked up he replied, “Pitchfork and whoever set that interview up, not saying any names, but yeah. I think so.” Manuel said that he is confident Chief Keef will leave the detention center a changed man. “I got a message from him that he’s had a wake-up call. This is a wake-up call for him,” he revealed. “I think he’s gonna come out a different person. I think he’s gonna come out with some new music, a new attitude…” To read the full interview visit www.bestofbothoffices.com

Drake Will Debut New Single On Grammy Night

(AllHipHop News) Besides artists picking up trophies and star-studded performances there will be one more major music moment on February 10. Billboard.com is reporting that YMCMB member Drake will be releasing a new song on the night of the Grammys. The track is titled “Started From the Bottom,” and it will be the first official single off his upcoming third studio album. Pictures surfaced online a few weeks ago of the singer-rapper on the set of a video shoot, and it was speculated that the Toronto native may have been filming a music video for the new track. What is confirmed is that Drake connected with fellow Canadian, Director X, to direct the visuals. The two previously worked together on the videos “HYFR” and “No Lie.” So far, Drake has not announced a title or release date for the follow-up to his platinum album Take Care which was released in 2011. He spent most of 2012 dominating the radio with his hits “The Motto” and “HYFR” and from appearing on 2 Chainz’s “No Lie,” Rick Ross’s “Stay Schemin’,” French Montana’s “Pop That,” Meek Mill’s “Amen” and A$AP Rocky’s “F#####’ Problems.” He was also featured on the posthumous Aaliyah song “Enough Said.” Beyond dropping “Started From The Bottom,” Sunday, February 10 could be a huge night for Drake for other reasons as well. He will also be up for three Grammy awards- Best Rap Performance for “HYFR”, Best Rap Song for the “Motto”, and Best Rap Album for Take Care.

Fabolous Says 'Loso's Way 2' is Almost Done, Assures It Won't Be 'Ratchet'

(AllHipHop News) Ten year rap veteran Fabolous is still working on the sequel to his number 1 album, 2009’s Loso’s Way. Fab tells billboard.com that Loso’s Way 2 is nearly finished except for some last-minute adjustments. “I’d say it’s 80-85% done. I’d even give some of that 15% to working daily until I’ve got to turn it in. You may come with a record that’s urgent, that has to be on that project, the day before you turn in,” shared Fabolous with Billboard. Fab revealed that he has some high-profile features set up for the new LP. He has already recorded with Chris Brown, Rick Ross, John Legend, Future, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, and Chrisette Michelle, but he’s still not sure which songs will appear on the final tracklist. He also hinted that a Brooklyn-Queens collaboration featuring “God’s Son” could be in the works. “I’m still working on piecing it together and making it sonically fit. I even got a text today and was speaking to Nas about doing something as well.” While Fab is still unsure exactly which collabs will be on Loso’s Way 2, he does feel confident to say that his new album will not reflect what he calls the “ratchet era.” “It’s the ratchet era right now. Ratchet is really mainstream,” says Fabolous. Speaking on the upcoming video for the single “Ready” featuring Chris Brown, he adds, “I want to bring back the illusion and sense of fantasy, not just do the ratchet s### that everybody else is doing.” Loso’s Way 2 will be Fabolous’s 6th studio album. It’s currently scheduled for release in April 2013. Last November Fabolous dropped The S.O.U.L. Tape 2 mixtape which features songs with J. Cole, Pusha T, Trey Songz, Cassie, Wale, Joe Budden, and Teyana Taylor. To read the full interview visit billboard.com

Lil B and Joey Bada$$ Trade Diss Tracks Toward Each Other

Last night, Lil B, former member of The Pack, and Pro Era frontman Joey Bada$$ went from sending shots at each other on Twitter, to quickly jumping in the booth and recording diss records. The issues between the two rappers started after Joey sent the following tweet on January 28: Tell the @lilbthebasedgod dont quit his day job!! — oG $w###. (@joeyBADASS_) January 28, 2013 Joey’s tweet is a reference to his late friend, rapper Capital STEEZ, who spit that line in their collaboration “Survival Tactics“, but Lil B clearly took the mention of his Twitter handle as a diss. The Berkeley California rapper, also known as “The Based God,” sent out a series of tweets (later deleted) aimed at Joey. Lil B also responded by releasing a track called “I’m The Badass” where he addresses Joey with the line, “and if you really think you a badass/I’ll turn you into trash/you little b**ch.” Joey did eventual decide to take the dispute to wax. The Brooklyn native uploaded a track called “”Don’t Quit Your Day Job” to his Soundcloud page. The record features a sample of Janet Jackson’s “That’s The Way Love Goes” and opens with the lines, “I got an issue with this little b#### Shih Tzu/I’m a pit bull with lyrical missiles that won’t miss you.” Joey also uses the new record to show his respect to Bay Area hip hop by shouting out North California legends Too Short, E-40, Mac Dre, Del the Funky Homosapien, and Hieroglyphics at the end of the song. He also ends the track by jokingly sending a shout out to Lil B as well before adding “f### your b####.” Lil B has yet to respond to “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” with a new track or tweet. Who do you think had the better diss record Lil B or Joey Bada$$? [polldaddy poll=6864693]

Frank Ocean Wants to Press Charges Against Chris Brown

(AllHipHop News) R&B star Chris Brown may be facing serious consequences from the late night parking lot brawl with Frank Ocean over the weekend. The Odd Future member wants to press charges against Brown for allegedly attacking him on January 27, outside West Hollywood’s Westlake Studios on Sunday Night. L.A. Sheriff’s office spokesman Steve Whitman told The New York Post that Ocean is “desirous of prosecution.” Police are now looking to speak with Brown about the incident. According to TMZ, Chris Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, contacted law enforcement officials and said that Brown is willingly to speak with detectives about the entire incident, claiming that there was no wrong doing on his part. Geragos also claims to have video evidence that can prove that Brown never threw a punch. The video is said to also show that Ocean wasn’t directly involved in any violent acts either, and that the fight was only between the two singer’s camps. Brown may not be completely cleared because a witness stated that Brown was the person who threw the first punch, and the video reportedly doesn’t show who started the fight. The footage only captured the altercation after the two entourages where no longer in the camera-free area of the parking lot. Geragos’s insistence that Brown was not directly involved is extremely important. “The Look At Me Now” singer is still on probation for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammy Awards, causing both to miss the event. Brown’s latest run-in with the law may put a dent in plans for this year’s Grammy ceremony as well. The Post is also reporting that Brown and Rihanna were scheduled to perform together at the awards show on February 10th, but the Brown-Ocean incident is likely to end the potential on stage public reunion of the on-again-off-again couple. Chris Brown and Ocean will also face off in the Best Urban Contemporary Album Grammy category this year for their respective LP’s Fortune and channel ORANGE. The two will compete against fellow nominee Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream.
