It has been 17 years since 50 Cent dropped “In Da Club,” his hit song on his debut studio album Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
And it has taken almost two decades for the video for that song to gain 1 billion views on YouTube.
“In Da Club” is now the second Rap/Hip Hop music video that was released before YouTube became the go to location to watch music videos, to obtain this milestone.
Fif now joins the man that gave him his biggest opportunity, Eminem in this elite club.
Eminem’s “Without Me” is the first rapper to hit 10 figure mark.
Other musicians, whose musical genres range from rock to R&B to alternative, that are also in the billy view club are Nirvana, Queen, Guns N’ Roses, Whitney Houston, The Cranberries and a-ha.
“In Da Club” was directed by Philip Atwell, who also worked on projects with Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop, and others. It also won several honors such as Best Rap Video and Best New Artist at the 2003 VMAs and was nominated for Video Of The Year.
The song also hit #1 on the Billboard top 200 charts and was a part of 9x platinum album that was voted as one of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time.
50 took to his social media to celebrate the honor.
His Instagram and Twitter captions reflected his pride, “1 Billion views 👀not Bad for a kid from South Side. LOL.”
