(AllHipHop News) Musician, poet, and author Gil Scott-Heron’s post-humous memoir, The Last Holiday, will be published by Canongate on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 16, 2012.

The decision to release The Last Holiday on that day is no coincidence. According to The Wire, Heron’s civil rights activism is chronicled in the memoir, as well as a number of his greatest memories. Such memories and topics include touring and performing with Stevie Wonder in the early 1980s, his relationship with John Lennon, his participation and  association within the civil rights movement, and much more.

Gil Scott-Heron passed away in May 2011 at the age of 62. His final album, I’m New Here, was released in 2010 to critical acclaim.
