J. Cole Announces Gang Starr’s “Family And Loyalty” As His Final Feature

DJ Premier recruited the North Carolinian for the Boom-Bap collab.

(AllHipHop News) Has J. Cole’s historic two-year run of features come to an end with Gang Starr’s “Family and Loyalty”? According to the Dreamville Records boss, the answer is yes.

“This [an] honor to be on this song. NEW Gang Starr . This is the last feature you’ll hear from me. Thank you to everybody I got to work with during this run. @REALDJPREMIER. This song a classic, thank you. RIP GURU,” tweeted Cole on September 20.

Over the last two years, Jermaine Cole showed up on records by Royce da 5’9, Jay Rock, 6lack, Moneybagg Yo, J.I.D, 21 Savage, Offset, Ari Lennox, Rapsody, Anderson. Paak, Big K.R.I.T., Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, and more. He also contributed several verses to Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation.

The North Carolina native’s last full-length solo studio LP was 2018’s KOD. That same year, Cole discussed releasing an album called The Fall Off and a separate project as his alter ego kiLL edward.

KOD was Cole’s third consecutive album that did not include any guest appearances. A 2019 feature for GQ included the 34-year-old Roc Nation emcee explaining why he decided to do more collaborations.

“I’m starting to realize like, oh sh*t – let’s say I stopped this year. I would feel like I missed out on certain experiences, you know? Working with certain artists, being more collaborative, making more friends out of peers, making certain memories that I feel like if I don’t, I’m gonna regret it one day,” said Cole.
