Leading DJ’s Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Tony Touch, Madlib and Peanut Butter Wolf are judges in the second annual “Free Up Your Mix” national DJ contest presented by car company Scion. Scion is calling on DJ’s from across the country to provide their best live 30-minute mixtape. Twelve regional semifinalists will be chosen to receive prize packages and perform alongside legendary hip-hop DJs at one of Scion’s monthly club nights, which will occur in 12 markets for the month of December 2004. The veteran DJ’s will then select one winner will receive the grand prize, a chance to mix a Scion CD sampler with a distribution of 500,000 free copies. The winner will also receive a $2500 cash prize & DJ’ing equipment. “As one of New York’s tape kings, I’ll be checking for creativity, skills, and overall presentation from all you DJ’s out there,” Tony Touch said.
