(AllHipHop News) Before K. Michelle was throwing candles on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, the R&B vocalist was learning the music industry under the tutelage of R. Kelly. She has even referred to the veteran performer as her mentor.

K. Michelle is now getting ready to release Kimberly: The People I Used to Know on December 8, so the chart-topper is making a media run. While speaking with Revolt, the Atlantic Records signee was asked about the longstanding allegations of sexual misconduct against Kelly.

“I respect everything that he’s done for me. I would not be the artist I am today. I wouldn’t know how to record. I wouldn’t know the importance of the music, so my loyalty always has a point to lie within it,” said K. Michelle. “But you’ll never hear me tell another woman what she went through. That happened to me.”

The Memphis native later added, “I’m never gonna tell you what you went through at the hands of a man, at the hands of your abuser… I would just ask women [to] stop taking the side of these men cause they ain’t gonna take yours.”
