Khalid, 21 Savage & SZA Among 2017’s First-Time RIAA Award Recipients

(AllHipHop News) 2017 was a commendable year for a lot of musical neophytes. The Recording Industry Association of America recognized the musicians that managed to earn Gold and Platinum awards for the first time over the last 12 months.

According to the RIAA, singer-songwriter Khalid was the only new artist to earn a Platinum Album Award in 2017. American Teen was certified for surpassing 1 million units on October 24.

Projects by fellow fresh faces 21 Savage, SZA, and Russ broke the 500,000 unit mark this year. 21’s Issa Album was certified Gold in October, SZA’s Ctrl was certified Gold that same month, and Russ’ There’s Really a Wolf was certified Gold in August.

21 Savage also earned his first Multi-Platinum RIAA Song Award in 2017. “Bank Account” is currently certified 2x Platinum.

Breakout rap sensation Cardi B collected a 3x Platinum plaque for the #1 hit “Bodak Yellow.” Aminé, Kyle, Young M.A, and A Boogie wit da Hoodie were listed as Multi-Platinum RIAA Song Award first timers as well.

In total, 2017 saw 64 acts earned their first Gold or Platinum Awards. Other notable Hip Hop entertainers on the RIAA’s year-end list include 6lack, Dae Dae, Denzel Curry, DJ Esco, Dreezy, Goldlink, Joey Bada$$, Kap G, Lil Yachty, Nebu Kiniza, NF, Playboi Carti, PnB Rock, Rich Chigga, Smokepurpp, Tee Grizzley, Ugly God, XXXTentacion, and YFN Lucci.
