Lil Yachty Signs Deal With Universal Music Publishing Group

AFTER QUESTIONS ABOUT WHO OWNS HIS PUB, THE ATL NATIVE SIGNS WITH UMPG

(AllHipHop News) During his viral conversation with Joe Budden and DJ Akademiks for Everyday Struggle, Lil Yachty declared he was the best at business among his generation of rappers.

HitsDailyDouble reports the 19-year-old Quality Control artist has now signed a new deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.

“Lil Yachty has proven to be a standout recording artist and songwriter, with a talent for delivering songs with catchy hooks,” stated UMPG Chairmen and CEO Jody Gerson. “He’s brave and unapologetic about his artistry. We’re happy to be working with Coach K and Pee on another great artist from the Quality Control family.”

Late last year, questions about Yachty’s publishing rights became a topic in the media following the Atlanta native admitting to The Fader he was unaware of who was responsible for collecting payments generated from his musical work.

“I don’t think I signed my publishing,” said Yachty. “I don’t know who my publishing is signed to. I really don’t.”

The “Minnesota” performer also raised concerns after stating during his Everyday Struggle interview that he did not know whether he was signed to a 360 record deal.

“I don’t know,” answered Lil Yachty when asked if his label gets a portion of any revenue made outside of music. “I know I have an amazing deal. I have an amazing attorney.”

The Teenage Emotions album creator later took to Twitter to claim he knows what type of deal he is signed to and he was just unfamiliar with the term “360 deal.”

Yachty also tweeted at the time that he owns all of his publishing.
