Nike’s Colin Kaepernick “Dream Crazy” Ad Wins An Emmy For Outstanding Commercial

The “Just Do It” spot features Kap saying, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

(AllHipHop News) Colin Kaepernick continues to be a topic of conversation when it comes to the NFL, systemic racism, and modern-day activism. The former San Francisco 49ers player became a controversial figure when he ignited the kneeling protests against racial injustice during the playing of the national anthem at football games.

Many supporters of Kaepernick believe the National Football League is blackballing the 31-year-old quarterback for his political stance, but detractors have defended the owners’ decision to keep him off a team. Despite the disputes over taking a knee, Nike chose to stand by Kap with its “Just Do It” campaign’s “Dream Crazy” commercial.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences rewarded Nike’s ad with the Outstanding Commercial honor at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. “Dream Crazy” was created by the Wieden+Kennedy advertising agency and produced by Park Pictures.

Kaepernick narrates the spot which includes footage of sports icons Serena Williams and LeBron James. The commercial received praise from backers of Kap, but it was slammed by President Donald Trump and many of his followers.
