Run The Jewels Discuss Their Black Youth/White Cop Themed Video For “Close Your Eyes"

KILLER MIKE & EL-P TACKLE POLICING & RACIAL CONFLICT IN NEW CLIP

(AllHipHop News) Last year Killer Mike was one of the most outspoken Hip Hop representatives during the national conversation on police brutality. The Atlanta emcee and his Run The Jewels partner El-P revisit the conversation in the new video for  “Close Your Eyes (And Count To F**k).”

The track off 2014’s Run The Jewels 2 album features Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against The Machine. Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, Wolf of Wall Street) and Keith Stanfield (Selma, Straight Outta Compton) star in the AG Rojas directed visuals.

“This video represents the futile and exhausting existence of a purgatory-like law enforcement system. There is no neat solution at the end because there is no neat solution in the real world,” states Mike. “However, there is an opportunity to dialogue and change the way communities are policed in this country. Salutes to AG Rojas for his unique take on the subject matter and to Shea and Keith for giving us their all and bringing it to life.”

El-P adds, “This is a vision of a seemingly never-ending struggle whose participants are pitted against each other by forces originating outside of themselves.”

Rojas also released a statement about the video. It can be read in full here.
