(AllHipHop News) The life of fashion wiz Daniel “Dapper Dan” Day will be told in an upcoming memoir and biopic.

The Harlem legend’s story has been snapped up by Sony with Jerrod Carmichael attached to write and produce alongside Sony-based producer Josh Bratman of Immersive Pictures.

Dapper Dan became famous in the early 1980s, thanks to his ability to flip luxury-brands into his own designs, which were extremely popular within the hip-hop community.

Celebs like LL Cool J, Eric B. & Rakim, Salt-N-Pepa,, Aaliyah and Jay-Z helped popularize Dapper Dan’s brand, which originally operated from his iconic store on 125th Street.

The success of his clothes caught the attention of the luxury fashion houses, which eventually shut him down for co-opting their logos.

“The project will weave a high-stakes coming-of-age story of personal triumph set against the backdrop of an evolving Harlem, following the man known by many as the ‘Godfather of Hip Hop Fashion,'” a rep for Dapper Dan told AllHipHop.com in a statement.

Dapper Dan and his son and brand manager, Jelani Day, are set to executive produce. Day’s memoir is scheduled to be published in 2019 by Random House.

Almost 40 years after his start, Dapper Dan is still going strong.

He recently inked a deal with Gucci to drop a capsule collection, and over the weekend, actress Salma Hayek was recently spotted wearing one of his signature designs.
