Trey Songz Talks Nearly Signing Drake, Issues With Nicki Minaj & Recording With Meek Mill (VIDEO)

WATCH TRIGGA BREAK DOWN HIS CONNECTIONS TO THE THREE ARTISTS

(AllHipHop News) Trey Songz returned to The Breakfast Club this week, and the R&B performer discussed his connections to three of the most talked about artists in Hip Hop.

Over eight years ago, Songz joined forces with a then lesser known rapper named Drake for records like “Replacement Girl,” “Successful” and “I Invented Sex.”

The Virginia-raised vocalist spoke about how he nearly signed Drake before the Toronto native went over to Young Money/Cash Money.

“Drake wouldn’t be Drake if we made that decision. Drake wanted to sign to me at a time I wasn’t even ‘Trey Songz’ yet,” explained Songz. “At that time, I felt like me and my label weren’t even in a good place whereas though they fully believed in my potential. I took Drake to many executives and a lot of people said no.”

The “Animal” singer admitted he and Drake had “personal issues” which played a part in the two performers not making more music together.

They have since reunited in London over the last month for Drake’s tour stop in the city.

Trey was also asked about his dust-up with Nicki Minaj over allegations presented in Remy Ma’s “ShETHER” that the “Bottoms Up” collaborators slept together at one point.

“Nicki said she gave me six plaques. But let’s keep it real, Nicki ain’t have sh-t before ‘Bottoms Up,'” stated Songz.

He added, “I love you, Nicki. I love you. You came at me wrong. You disrespected me, but I love you.”

The radio show conversation also included Trey talking about Minaj’s ex-boyfriend Meek Mill.

Some fans were wondering if a recent Instagram picture featuring Trey and Meek in a recording studio was meant to be a subliminal diss directed at Nicki.

“Nobody ever uses me as a pawn, first of all,” Songz declared.

The Tremaine album creator continued, “I was appalled that people would think I would get together with Meek and do some kind of diss record against Nicki Minaj. I’m not even thinking about that.”

While a Minaj response track is not happening, Songz did reveal he and Meek have recorded at least five records together.

“I don’t think it was a good idea to take a picture and post it… But whatever, you wanna take a picture and post it” said Trey. “I think the caliber of intelligence that people have is lowered by the need and the want for drama. I think people look past logic and reasoning to see, ‘Oh, there’s bullsh-t.’ We were just in the studio.”
