(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper Future recently explained the making of the remix to his hit single “Tony Montana,” with chart topping rapper Drake. The single is the second successful release for Future, who also hit big with the #1 single “Racks” with West Coast rapper YC. “When I was making ‘Tony Montana,’ it was so far fetched for me to get Drake on the record,” Future said. “They called me and said ‘Drake wants to get on Tony.’ We had a long conversation. I sent it to him and he sent it back the same night. ‘Tony Montana’ is the ‘Scarface’ movie on wax.” “Tony Montana” featuring Drake will be the first official single from Future’s debut album, Pluto. Future’s roots in Atlanta hip-hop also run deep, as he is the cousin of producer Rico Wade of The Dungeon Family, who has crafted albums for Outkast, Big Boi, Cee Lo Green, TLC En Vogue, Ludacris and others. Starting this week on VEVO, Future will be featured as the “Rising Icon” in Grey Goose Entertainment’s third season. The new series will chronicle Future’s life on and off the stage. DRAKE ADDRESSES JAY AND PUSHA-T DISSES….
Drake Leaving Young Money After Take Care?!! Some inside sources/snitches in Drake’s camp are reporting that his time with Young Money is going to be ending soon. This is not the first time these rumors and reports have been made public, but now there seems to be some evidence to back it up. Last week, Drake announced his Club Paradise tour with Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky; in other words, no Young Money brethren. On top of that, word is that Take Care is contractually Drake’s last album with Wayne’s Young Money imprint. November 15 is the new date…only time will tell. Maybach Music Group’s Newest Member is……..Emilio Rojas? [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsBswde4wcA&w=560&h=315] This would certainly be a good look for Emilio and an even better look for the growing MMG roster. Make a move, Mr. Rozay! Government Closing Tons of California Marijuana Dispensaries! Federal prosecutors said at a news conference that the crackdown is directed at the “commercial marijuana industry,” particularly operations near schools, parks and athletic fields. “We want to put to rest the notion that large marijuana businesses can shelter themselves under state law,” said U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag, the top federal prosecutor in San Francisco. Haag said the 1996 voter-approved law “has been hijacked by profiteers … using the cover to make enormous amounts of money.” In a separate statement, the U.S. attorney for the central district of California, André Birotte Jr., said: “It is important to note that for-profit, commercial marijuana operations are illegal not only under federal law, but also under California law. While California law permits collective cultivation of marijuana in limited circumstances, it does not allow commercial distribution through the store-front model we see across California.” Thoughts? What do you guys out in California think about this? Will the West Coast “medicinal weed” crowd survive? Avengers Assemble!!! Over the past several years, Chicago rapper Yung Berg has released chart-topping and radio-friendly hits like “Sexy Lady,” “Do That There,” “Sexy Can I,” and “The Business.” Yet to many in Hip-Hop, those records just so happen to be by the same guy who was caught up in some of the Internet and tabloids’ biggest stories about chain-snatchings, beat downs, and arrests. Berg has had time to look back on the things that may or may not have happened as life lessons on what to not do when you’re riding high on the wave of success. More importantly, he’s learning not to let the negativity of others bring him down. Last month, on his 25th birthday, Berg officially launched Young Fly Movement Productions and announced his signing of two artists: female singer Mia Rey and rapper Driicky Graham. AllHipHop.com recently spent some time with Berg as he prepares to take the music world by storm once again. However, before letting the spotlight shine on himself as a solo artist, he’s preparing to wear the mogul hat and carve out a new path within the music industry. When all is said and done, Berg wants to put the past behind him and move forward to the next chapter of his life – making great music for himself and his new family of artists and producers. AllHipHop.com: What’s going on, Yung Berg? Yung Berg: Not much, man…just writing right now in the studio, working on some new music. AllHipHop.com: Before we get into the real topics at hand, briefly tell me a little about your first deal with DMX’s Bloodline Records. Yung Berg: Well, actually, I was like 14 years old [then], and my rap name used to be Ice Berg. I met DMX on the set of the “What These B*tches Want” music video shoot. I walked up to him and was like, “Yo, I want to spit for you, X,” and at that time I was a little little n*gga, I was like 4’4”. X was like “rap for my n*ggas, and they gon’ let me know if you can f*ck with the dog.” So his n*ggas that I ended up rapping for were two influential people in the music business right now – DJ LS One and also the legendary Swizz Beatz. I came with this super fast rap, and Swizz and everyone went crazy because they were like “damn this n*gga’s 14 and can rap this fast.” So they told me to chill and wait for X to be done with his shots for the video, and when he got to his trailer, Swizz told me to spit that same rap for X. He came back and said, “I’ma be real with you. I’m going to sign you. I want you to be on my label. It’s not gonna happen real quick, it’s not gonna happen tomorrow, but I’ma sign you.” Six months later down the line, I got that call, and I was the first artist signed to DMX’s record label off Def Jam. The rest is really history. AllHipHop.com: Do you still have any relationship with DMX or Swizz Beatz? Yung Berg: Yeah, as far as Swizz, we’re real cordial when we see each other and things of that nature. Like ultimately, my parents ended up pulling me out of my deal with DMX and shipping me off to boarding school and taking me out of that life cause I was really reckless at the time. I remember getting up with Eve – like Eve has been like a big mentor to me throughout my whole career. She’s like a big sister to me and really took me under her wing as a young artist. I was at Powerhouse Studios and battle-rapping with Cassidy and Larsiny and [Jada] Kiss and Styles and around the whole Ruff Ryder movement. So I’m cool and cordial with everybody. As far as DMX, I haven’t talked to him in like a year. He was in Arizona when I talked to him last, but when we talked, it was like no time had even passed. He was really proud of me and happy for me for doing my Yung Berg thing and wanted to get in the studio and make some music together. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fldFc756LAU&w=560&h=31] AllHipHop.com: That’s an awesome story, man, and something I’m sure a lot of people don’t even know. Now that your starting the new chapter of your life, can you tell me about your new company, Young Fly Movement Productions? Yung Berg: I was working with a couple of producers that I met and came up with and that I was able to do my hits with. Our relationships came to a strain because when I was going through personal things in my career, there were people starting to criticize me, or say different things about me. The people that I thought were in my corner and that I changed their lives and sold millions of records with, these people were no longer in my corner anymore. They thought it wasn’t a good look, and yet they were still with me, living at my house, and living off me, and I was still paying all the bills and feeding these people. But behind my back, they had their own intentions of what they wanted to do with their career and how they wanted to further it without Yung Berg being a part of it. At that point, I realized it and I moved to Miami, and I just really started focusing on myself and getting myself right. Just focusing on what I needed to do to really take things to the next level. From this I was able to sign six producers to Y.F.M., and I met them all on Twitter. So while we were making these moves behind the scenes, like we produced the record “John” for Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, we did the intro to Meek Mill’s mixtape, Dream Chasers, I was just like […]

Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild, and Tank – some rappers just seem to fit better with rappers than others. Then, there’s Grammy-nominated Ryan Leslie. The Harvard-educated music man, Ryan Leslie, originally from Washington, D.C., has been known over the years for his Hip-Hop flavored anthems such “Diamond Girl” and “Addicted” with Cassie. The fact that he plays the piano and has an Ivy League educational background may have lumped him into a certain lane with his R&B peers. Still, Leslie says fans should get ready to see him in a whole new light – as a rapper. MC-ing isn’t new to the crooner, he says – it just hasn’t had its turn in the sun. AllHipHop.com interviewed Ryan Leslie as he prepares for a special “Black Music Month” performance on June 15 at the 14th Street Apple Store in New York, and later, Tunisia, North Africa on a goodwill mission. He also dropped us his Top 5 Dead or Alive before signing off: AllHipHop.com: Hi Ryan, how are you? Ryan: I’m good, Seandra. Thanks so much for having me at 11:30 on a Monday morning! I’m actually going to be talking to London and Paris coming up so…they’re six hours ahead of me, so I’ve been up since about 6 already. AllHipHop.com: Oh my goodness. Well you did a good job performing at [Hot97] Summer Jam recently, a super quick job, but good. Ryan: Thank you very much. AllHipHop.com: Was it your first time at Summer Jam? Ryan: Well, that was the longest I’ve ever been on stage at Summer Jam. I came out with Jim Jones and Dipset in 2009. I made a record with Jim Jones called “Precious.” AllHipHop.com: Right, ok. Well, I want to backtrack a little bit, and just talk a little bit about your background real quick for anybody who’s been living under a rock for the past few years and doesn’t know a lot about you. The thing that always stood out about you for me was your musicianship. You play the piano, you know, and you’re not just a guy who walked into the studio without some training. So tell me about your early music years. Ryan: Well, I come from a musical family. My parents are both musicians. My father, his main instrument was the trumpet, and he still plays from time to time, and my mother’s main instrument is the piano. She still plays and loves it to death. So it was just only natural that me and my sister would be drawn to music as a way to express ourselves and as a way to just have a bond with the family, I mean, we would sing together and it was a really big part of my childhood, and you know, my parents are Salvation Army officers so we didn’t really have the money to have formal training. I mean they tried to pick and choose what they could afford to send us to in terms of education, education and extracurriculars. So my father really, you know, he wanted me to go to karate school (laughs)… AllHipHop.com: You said karate? [laughter] Ryan: Yeah. Japanese karate. And my mother, who’s actually half Chinese, her cousin in Canada actually ran a karate school so there were many summers that they would just have me go up to Canada to train. And my sister was actually the one who got the piano lessons. I was so jealous. But what I would do is I would take her piano books, or take my mother’s piano books, you know, and I taught myself all of the musical proficiency that I have today. And you know that’s not to say I didn’t have an environment to practice in because the Salvation Army has a really rich musical tradition, so I was in band camp for a week out of a year or something like that. Really a lot of the musicanship and my ability to play instruments just comes from my own curiosity and approach to learning which was “hey, if I can’t take classes I’ll teach myself.” AllHipHop.com: Right. You have a pretty impressive educational background, too, that people might not know about. What did you study when you were in college? Ryan: Well, I actually went to went to…I concentrated in…I majored in Government at Harvard with a concentration in Economics (Macroeconomics) and Political Science. AllHipHop.com: But the music, I guess, rose to the surface as what you really felt your passion was. Is that it? Ryan: Absolutely. Absolutely. AllHipHop.com: Ok. So I want to ask you about the new album “Les is More” and first I want to ask you to explain the title. Why is less more? Ryan: Why is less more? Well less is actually a play on my name, L-e-s, and in a lot of my productions or when I’ve actually mentioned my tag in songs that I produce or I’m a part of, I use the shortened version of my name RLES and so this album’s title is actually that everyone’s always toyed with when they hear my nickname RLES. “Oh RLES is more. You should do an album like that.” And at this juncture in my career, I really, really feel strongly about sharing more of myself, and what I mean by that is I feel like there are so many other dimensions to me that I really haven’t shared as an artist to this point, and one of the most probably obvious changes from everything you’ve heard from me is that this album is a Rap album so to actually go from being a Grammy-nominated contemporary R&B artist to deciding his next album is going to be a Rap album may catch some people off guard. But I’ve been rapping ever since I was a teenager and actually you know that’s because my sister always had the beautiful voice in the family, and I just always had an affinity for Rap as a medium of expressing myself. So I […]
