Austin City Limits’ 2012 Music Festival Adds The Roots, Big K.R.I.T. and Childish Gambino to Lineup
(AllHipHop News) Not to be outdone by all of the recent festival news from Soundset, Rock the Bells, Lollapalooza and Made In America, the Austin City Limits 2012 Music Festival (ACL) has revealed its lineup for the city’s 11th annual, three-day concert event, to take place October 12-14 at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. ACL 2012, which expects to attract over 70,000 attendees each day and is headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, and the Black Keys, will also include performances from the legendary Roots crew, Childish Gambino, Big K.R.I.T., A-Trak, Barrington Levy, and 2011 Grammy Award-winner for Best New Artist, Esperanza Spalding, who last played the festival in 2009. Spalding and A-Trak will be performing on Friday, October 12, while Big K.R.I.T. and The Roots are slated to appear on Saturday, October 13. Childish Gambino and Barrington Levy will help close out ACL 2012 on the festival’s last day, Sunday, October 14. Other acts that will play at ACL 2012 include Jack White, Florence + the Machine, The Avett Brothers, Weezer, Bassnectar, Dev, M83, and over 70 other performers from around the world. Afrika Bambaataa, Atmosphere, Danny Brown and More to Release “Record Store Day” Exclusives
(AllHipHop News) April 21 is the 5th annual Record Store Day, which will feature special releases from Afrika Bambaataa, Atmosphere, Danny Brown, Aesop Rock, and many more. Every year since its inception, Record Store Day has allowed music enthusiasts and collectors to take part in special events, and more importantly, purchase exclusive works from an enormous list of diverse talent from all musical genres. Among the exclusive content that will be released for this year’s celebration is a special 7″ release from punk band MC5, that will include the original version of their song “Kick Out the Jams,” as well as a cover by Zulu Nation’s Afrika Baambaataa. Five thousand copies of this release are expected to be pressed. Rhymesayers Entertainment will distribute a three-sided exclusive for Record Store Day, which includes music from Atmosphere and the duo of Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson, known as The Uncluded. The 10″ vinyl, which will only receive 1,500 pressings, also includes a special third side featuring “A Poop Story Told By Slug.” In addition, Fool’s Gold artist Danny Brown will release, for the first time ever on vinyl, 1,000 double-sided 12″ copies of his critically-acclaimed project, XXX. Releases from Run DMC, Childish Gambino, Miles Davis, Odd Future, Bruno Mars, The Pharcyde, Gorillaz, Andre 3000, and Esperanza Spalding will also be available for purchase on April 21.
