Damon Dash Hit With $2.8 Million Tax Bill
(AllHipHop News) Financial troubles continue to plague executive Damon Dash, who was recently hit with a $2.8 million tax bill. According to TMZ.com, the former Roc-A-Fella Records CEO owes for the years 2005 and 2011. Damon Dash is accused of failing to pay the IRS $2,614,918.10 in 2005, while 2011 shows that he owed $187,544.20. In May, Damon Dash appeared in a Manhattan Court to answer charges that he failed to pay back a $237,078 loan. [ALSO READ: Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Dame Dash Rich Or Broke] During the court filings, he detailed his financial woes. “I am currently several months behind paying my personal bills,” Damon Dash said in the filing. “For instance, I am currently over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which I live and at risk of being evicted.” Damon Dash also has to pay $24,000 every three months to his ex-wife Rachel Roy, $20,000 per-month in garnished wages, $4,341.10 a month for his son Christian and over $40,000 per-month in outstanding tax obligations. “I’m an independent businessman and this is what comes from business,” Dash continued. “I have the guts to fight my battles on my own and it’s entertainment to everybody else because I’m so cool about it.”

On February 8th, the IRS hit Snoop D-O-double-G with a tax lien claiming the rapper owes $546,270.29 in unpaid back taxes according to documents obtained by TMZ. One possible reason for Snoop’s back rent could be him paying back another tax lien from the IRS back in 2011 for roughly $467,000 in back taxes dating back to 2008. Forbes reports that Snoop Dogg raked in $14 million in 2011 and $11 million in 2009 while recently only pulling in $8 million in 2012. With a new documentary arriving on March 15th and his 12th studio album expecting a Spring release(with the DVD of the documentary) it looks like Snoop’s lucrative 2013 could partially go to Uncle Sam. (AllHipHop News) Bronx bred Latino rapper Fat Joe, born Joseph Cartagena, pleaded guilty to two counts of evading taxes on $3.7 million dollars of income. The 42-year-old rapper, known for his work with the late Big Pun, Terror Squad and many others, plead guilty in a federal courthouse in New Jersey. The rap star admitted that he evaded paying taxes, in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Although he is free currently on $250,000, bail, Fat Joe faces up to two years of jail time when his sentence is delivered in April. (AllHipHop News) Popular producer Swizz Beatz has denied reports that he is deep in debt to the IRS. Swizz recently produced documents showing that is 2010 bill to the IRS has been paid in full. Reports had stated that Swizz Beatz still owed the federal government $98,246 in unpaid taxes for the year 2010. During a recent appearance on BET’s video countdown show “106 & Park,” Swizz elaborated on the issue. “I don’t have no tax issues. And if I have $100,000 tax issues and I’m in serious trouble,” Swizz said. “I’m not going to speak, but everyone will see what it is. (AllHipHop News) Former Fugee group member Lauryn Hill is facing prison time, after pleading guilty to tax violations today (June 29). Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty to three counts of failure to file tax returns, from 2005-2007. The singer admitted that she “intentionally and willingly” failed to report income of more than $1.8 million. Lauryn Hill is facing three years in prison when she is sentenced in November. She addressed the issue on a blog posts on her Tumblr blog. “For the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground,” she wrote in a post. “I did this in order to build a community of people, like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.” According to reports, Lauryn Hill was released on $150,000 bail.
