Wyclef Releases “April Showers” Mixtape; Enlists T.I., Waka Flocka, Mobb Deep and More
(AllHipHop News) Three-time Grammy Award winning artist Wyclef has released a 33 track mixtape called April Showers. The lengthy mixtape which boasts features from T.I., Waka Flocka Flame, Mobb Deep, Trae Tha Truth, Kirko Bangz, King Los, Troy Ave, Maino, Haitian Fresh, Murda Mook and others releases at noon via DatPiff.com today (April 29). On the project Wyclef introduces new talent signed to his Refugee La Republique Records label and features production from a host of upcoming talented producers including, Young Chop of Chief Keef’s camp. Included on the project are the previously released tracks “Hip Hop” and “Mid Life Crisis” as well as other brand new music from Wyclef. “With April Showers, I am going to show you where I feel the evolution and future of music is going. From this body of work you can expect a futuristic sonic eclectic sound,” Wyclef explained. “April Showers promises a forecast that will help bring brighter days to Hip Hop fans across the globe.” In addition to the mixtape release, Wyclef is releasing his video “Mid Life Crisis,” which was directed by his sister, Melky Jean. The video features Wyclef in an insane asylum, addressing past events that have occurred in his career of music, philanthropy and politics. Wyclef Jean Speaks On Chief Keef, Lil Wayne, & The Evolution Of Hip-Hop
(AllHipHop News) “What is real Hip-Hop?” is a question that has been asked since its inception. As the culture continues to expand artistically and geographically some see parts of Hip-Hop’s new direction as a fake interpretation of the true essence while others feel it is an inevitable growth as younger generations take the lead. Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean seems to be in the latter group. “[Hip-Hop’s] a lifestyle that’s around the entire world,” Wyclef tells the thedrop.fm. “A form of expression through the youth, that at the time, whatever their environment is going through they are going to reflect it in the music.” In the interview Wyclef also addresses some of the more polarizing forms of recent rap music like Psy’s hit single “Gangnam Style,” Chief Keef’s brand of street rap, and Lil Wayne’s controversial “Emmett Till” line from Future’s “Karate Chop (Remix)”. [ALSO READ: Family of Emmett Till Sends Prayers to Lil Wayne] On Gangnam Style: You have graffiti and dance culture, that you constantly see, like “Gangnam Style,” which you can clearly see is inspired by an MC Hammer video, parts of the culture shares spaces. On Chief Keef: I can hear Chief Keef and appreciate him the same way I did N.W.A. when they were coming out and showing you what their area felt like. On Lil Wayne’s Emmett Till Line: I think that’s his form of expression. If I said it as Wyclef Jean, I would be wrong because you know what I stand for, everything I stand for I already said… So you can’t dwell on anyone, I can’t have an opinion on that because knowledge of self is key. His opinion is his opinion. Regarding the Emmitt Till line, Wyclef did go on to say that he would prefer to have a personal conversation with Wayne about the reference rather than speaking through the press. He did publicly praise the work of one young emcee that has also been making a lot of headlines over the last few months. “I love Hip-Hop when I hear the innovation of Kendrick Lamar, where you can hear a CD from beginning to end,” admitted Wyclef. Clef recently paid homage to Hip-Hop’s Golden Era artists and shouted out members of the culture’s new school on his track “Hip Hop.” On the song Wyclef talks about the connection between rap’s past and present. BET To Televise Unaired Stevie Wonder United Nations Concert
(AllHipHop News) For one night on October 24th, 2012 the United Nations Organization was not dealing with oil crises or warring dictators, but celebrating their 67th anniversary with a concert of music legends. BET Networks and Wonder Production will televise the concert on Centric and BET. The concert special will air on Saturday, February 23rd at 9PM EST on Centric and air on Sunday, March 3rd at 11AM EST on its parent station, BET. The iconic Stevie Wonder will headline the special, dubbed Stevie Wonder with Friends: Celebrating a Message of Peace with performances from legends such as Wyclef Jean and Sting as well as burgeoning musical talents Janelle Monae and Elle Varner along with others. The event will be emceed by Malcolm Jamal Warner. In a press release, the 22-time Grammy Award winner described the night as “spirited and fun”. The CEO/Chairman of BET Network elucidated the reasons why Stevie Wonder was the perfect choice as a headliner for an event celebrating the United Nations Organization: “Beyond his incredible music career, Stevie Wonder has consistently used his voice to create a better and more peaceful world.” Mr. Wonder recently denounced Lil Wayne’s controversial Emmett Till line from Future’s “Karate Chop(Remix)”. After telling the Associated Press that Weezy “just cannot do that” he challenged the rapper to exercise more empathy regarding sensitive subjects such as Emmit Till’s brutal murder: “Imagine if that happened to your mother, brother, daughter or your son. How would you feel? Have some discernment before we say certain things. Wyclef Jean Announces "April Showers" Mixtape with T.I., 2 Chainz And Trae The Truth
(AllHipHop News) Grammy Award-winning rapper, singer and producer Wyclef Jean has announced a new mixtape slated to drop this Spring titled April Showers. April Showers will be the first full-length release from Wyclef since his 2009 conceptual album, From the Hut, To The Projects, To The Mansion. In 2011 Wyclef released the political Hip-Hop EP, If I Were President: The Haitian Experience, following his decision to back-out of Haiti’s presidential race. Wyclef has reached out to a number of artists for April Showers including T.I., 2 Chainz, Trae the Truth, Waka Flocka and Uncle Murda and has confirmed that each will be featured upon its release. Following the release of the track “Hip-Hop,” Wyclef vowed to create an entire project that all of his fans can enjoy. “The reaction I’ve been getting from [“Hip-Hop”] has made me realize just how badly the fans want music that can evoke certain types of emotion,” he told HHDX. “With April Showers, I am going to show you where I feel the evolution and future of music is going.” He continued, “From this body of work you can expect a futuristic sonic eclectic sound.” Most recently Wyclef released his autobiography, Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story and the multi-platinum artist also portrayed a record label president on the hit ABC series “Nashville.”

Wyclef is bearing his soul in his new book, Purpose, which was released yesterday, and has already revealed his “triangle love affair” with Lauryn Hill while he was married. If you recall, Wyclef Jean’s wife, Claudinette, allegedly hit the roof when she found naked pics of his manager on his phone. Publicly, Wyclef remained mum about the affair, but Ellis released a statement saying that the photos were from an upcoming art book and denied having an affair with Wyclef. Ellis was fired shortly thereafter. Page Six has an excerpt from Purpose, where Wyclef reveals the infidelity. Check it out below: “In those years after my father died, like I said, I made many mistakes. The worst of them was to get into a relationship with the woman who was my manager at the time . . . My former manager claimed that the picture was a nude shot taken by a photographer for a book of artistic portraits. I’m pretty sure that book never came out, but I wasn’t going to throw her under the bus publicly, so I didn’t say anything more about it.” Jean also said he didn’t fire Ellis as his manager because his wife, Claudinette, made him. “I did so because of a few bad business decisions on her part, and I also didn’t agree with her management style. Even if those two issues hadn’t been there, my mixing business with pleasure was miserable. Firing her as my manager was the only thing I could do after crossing those lines, because business could not go on as usual between us any longer.” I wonder how Wyclef’s wife is feeling right about now with all of his confessions of him stepping out on her.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Are Lauryn Hill And Wyclef Jean Still Beefing?
Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill have a troubled history with one another, with Wyclef at one point publicly urging Lauryn Hill to get “mental help.” With the resurgence of Hill’s career and years between their last spat, one would think that the two would have sat down and worked out their differences by now. Unfortunately, it looks like that is not the case. Both Wyclef and Lauryn Hill were present at the recent funeral for business architect Chris Lighty, but Wyclef admits that the two did not take a moment to greet each other. Check out what he told Montreality in a recent interview: “At the funeral It was just so many people. I was in the section next to Missy [Elliott], Lyor Cohen…it was so many people that it was hard for everybody to intertwine at once.” That’s a pretty cryptic answer, but it seems that they are still not on speaking terms. Wyclef Jean Set To DJ In NYC For Fourth of July; Lil Jon Also Part Of Arrival Fest Lineup

Housed at New York City’s picturesque The Waterfront on Pier 92, “ARRIVAL: An All-Day Rooftop Beach Party” will be deejayed by Wyclef Jean, along with appearances from superstar producer and rapper, Lil Jon, and well-known Australian DJs, Hook N Sling, who produced “The Best Thing” and “Gotta Make a Move”.
