David Banner Makes Throwback Honoring Teen Murdered In 1955

Mississippi’s David Banner is representing all sides of the state that he hails from, including reminders of the hardships African-Americans faced in their attempt to obtain civil rights in the United States.Banner is launching a line of throwback Jersey’s that will honor the murder of Emmitt Till, a teenager who was murdered in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman.”I’m wearing a fifty-five on my chest for the year he got murdered,” Banner told AllHipHop.com. “Emmitt Till was a young man who got murdered for winking at a white lady. I’m trying to have everything in the store, around summertime. It’s cold outside right now.”On August 21, 1955, Till arrived in Money, Mississippi from Chicago, to visit his great uncle, Moses Wright. On August 24, 1955 Till joined a group of teenagers, seven boys and one girl and went to a store, Bryant’s Grocery and Meat Market in Mississippi, to get refreshments after a long day of picking cotton.Bryant’s Grocery was owned by two whites, Roy and Carolyn Bryant and sold goods to a mostly black clientele of sharecroppers.Children outside of the store later claimed they heard Till whistle at Carolyn Bryant. On August 28, Carolyn’s husband Roy and his half brother J. W. Milam kidnapped Till from his uncle Moses Wright’s house, savagely beat him, took him to the edge of the Tallahatchie River, shot him in the head, tied a large metal fan with bobbed wire around his neck and threw him in the river. The next day Bryant and Milam were charged with Till’s kidnapping and later his murder, when his decomposing body was pulled from the river. The two men were put on trial in Sumner, Mississippi. African-American’s and women were banned from the trial and an all white male found the two men innocent after deliberating only 67 minutes. One of the jurors told a local reporter that they would have reached a decision faster, if they hadn’t “stopped to drink pop [soda].”Banner will release MTA2: Baptized In Dirty Water on December 23.

Financial Dispute Arises Over Three 6 Mafia’s “Choices” Sequel

While there is considerable anticipation surrounding the sequel to Three 6 Mafia’s “Choices,” one of the top selling VHS/DVD releases of 2001, members of the film’s crew aren’t happy with the companies that are producing “Choices 2.”Neal L. Fredericks, who is working as Director of Photography on the film and was the eye behind the smash film “The Blair Witch Project,” said many staff members are waiting to be compensated for their work.”The three parties making the film: Three 6 Mafia/Hypnotize Minds, Howard Gibson (producer)/Fig Tree Ent. and Sony Entertainment have actually not paid the production crew and vendors all of their salaries,” Fredericks told AllHipHop.com. “We are in a fight to get paid for the work performed on the film.Fredericks said the crew has contracts or deal memos and despite having their terms in writing, are still locked in a financial dispute with the companies.”Hundreds of checks were written and all bounced,” Fredericks alleged. “As of now several hundred working professionals in Los Angeles have not been paid. The checks were written knowing they would bounce.”Fredericks said that Gibson allegedly advised certain crew members to hold off on depositing checks and that others didn’t know at all, depending on their relationship with Gibson.”We tried to verify his [Gibson’s] bank account through Bank of America and found there was no money in the accounts and that they have been frozen,” Fredericks continued. “The film was done for such a low budget, we aren’t talking millions of dollars.”DJ Paul confirmed that a producer had indeed stiffed some of the crew members, but said he was attempting to rectify the situation.”I hired a producer to produce it and he ran off without paying everybody so I’m bout to sue him and get my money he f*cked off back,” Paul told AllHipHop.com. “Until then I been paying everybody who called me or came by, its just a lotta people trying to take advantage of the situation because we don’t know the arrangement with the producer, so they are making up prices they were due without giving me return checks to prove it.”Fredericks said that he harbored no animosity towards DJ Paul or Juicy J.”They are nice guys and they treated everyone very well. But it has been over two months. We just want to get paid. Sony is distributing the picture and Sony knows about it. This is our livelihood. Word spreads really quick in the film industry.”

How to be a FAMOUS Rapper

After years of being a fan and over a decade of being in the industry, I’ve finally figured it out. There are only a few things to do to gain the status of “FAMOUS RAPPER” and they’ll work at any level, be it local or across the globe. 1)Be generic. Have a look that anyone can have. You’ve seen it already. Big hats, icey white t-shirts etc. 2)Be really general but sound specific when you write your raps. Make it sound like you’re dissing someone that everybody knows but don’t actually say their name. It drives people crazy. Which brings me to the next tip… 3)Always have yourself near danger or in a conflict. Nobody wants to listen to some rapper rap about rap stuff. And tons of people want to go to a show where the show might not happen because the rapper you were or weren’t rapping about shows up to fight. 4)Guns. This one is tricky. Any idiot can have a gun, but it takes a “FAMOUS RAPPER” to have a gun concealed in a place where it can be found by the police. 5)This is for those of you who are real serious about being a “FAMOUS RAPPER”. You might feel it’s a little extreme at first ,but let it marinate for a minute. GET SHOT….. The trick here is, you have to get shot more times than the most “FAMOUS RAPPER” has been shot. The slug count is a little high right now so you might want to try and take the shots in places where you’ll still be able to walk onto a stage. Now, I know a lot of you are thinking…”this is wrong.” Is it? Most people would like to believe that talent sells records…NO. Talent gets 6 years olds on Showtime at the Apollo. Big dumb clones who fight and shoot each other and need mediators to settle what can be settled with wit and tact sells records.

Slick Rick: Free At Last

Freedom. Not many rappers appreciate their freedom as much as "Slick" Rick Walters. Born in South Wimbledon, London England, the rapper came to the United States at the tender age of 11. After hitting it big and becoming a pioneer in the rap game, the rapper ran afoul of the law and served a bid in the 90’s for shooting at his cousin. The rapper kept his nose clean, but after laws post 9-11 became strickt, the rapper found himself in trouble with the INS, who claimed he deported himself when he left American waters aboard a cruise ship with the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The rapper’s freedom was snatched from him in June of 2002 and he spent the next 17 months in jail on trumped up charges stating that the time he served for his crime was enough to send him back to England. But, Slick Rick, through it all, managed to stay dignified as his team lobbied to get him out of the INS detention cell. AllHipHop.com talked to the legend, who has no plans to retire. He’s got plans for hip-hop. AllHipHop: How you doing? Slick Rick: I ‘m fine AllHipHop: You hanging in there? Slick Rick: Yeah hanging in there. AllHipHop: So uh, are you back to normal yet? Slick Rick: Yeah pretty much you know, just getting back into to the swing of things trying to get everything organized. AllHipHop: How was your holiday? Slick Rick: Oh it was beautiful, me and the kids had a little Thanksgiving dinner with the parents you know, so it was a beautiful thing. AllHipHop: I spoke to you while you were in jail for AllHipHop. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the whole situation, now that you are looking at it from hind sight. Slick Rick: Well I guess it’s another one of those learning experiences you know what doesn’t break you, makes you stronger type of a thing and appreciate what’s important to you and you know appreciate life, appreciate being in America with your family and things of that nature. AllHipHop: You were in there for a minute, what kept you strong? Slick Rick: I guess faith and your family you know the ones that stuck by you, your wife, your children, that’s what pretty much keeps you strong. My faith in God really. AllHipHop: Was it easy for you meaning inmate wise? Did people give you a pass or you know, was it that type of jail? Slick Rick: Well I mean it’s going to be rough anywhere you go but um, basically it’s an immigration jail so everybody is more worried about getting deported to other countries. In a regular jail you know you’re doing your bid then you get out of jail and go to immigration. The worse part of their bid is over. Now it’s just the thing of being deported and fighting to stay in the country. So, a lot of the people who were there were not like total hardened criminals, some were just off the street etc. etc. AllHipHop: Did you think that it would actually be ruled in your favor because it seemed that you might be deported. Slick Rick: Yeah it did seem crazy, at one point my wife was in England and was trying to look for a place for us to live, because we had already lost all of our appeals. So that was a rough moment in our life, I was already packed up and everything ready to leave, right before the judge put a stop of deportation. So that was a real ruff moment and that was almost a year ago. That was the roughest part. AllHipHop: At one point you actually bragged, well not bragged but you kind of scoffed at the notion of being deported in a rhyme. I think you said "I don’t care if they deport me, I run America." What was that called? Slick Rick: I was just being humorous you know what I mean? The whole rap was just a bunch of humorous skits together you know what I mean? It said, even if I got deported, I own America! You know just regular braggadocios stuff that us rappers do from time to time. So it was just all in fun, it wasn’t like just being straight vain or anything crazy. AllHipHop: Now initially the industry support for you was very profound and pronounced. Everybody came out the woodwork, but as time went on it seemed like it died down considerably. AllHipHop, we definitely tried to maintain some awareness. How was the support industry wise, do you have any feelings on that or how it was? Slick Rick: You can’t be in the spotlight forever you know what I mean? The story comes and goes you know. The people that mattered the most stuck by me, the Chris Rocks, the Will Smiths, the senators, the Jesse Jacksons. They are long term support. As far as fans are concerned, they are support too and you know, everybody goes through their own situation. I’m a regular folk, I’m not a Michael Jackson or something like that, so I don’t expect my name to stay in everybody’s mouth 24/7. I mean it was a year and a half. AllHipHop: What about the guy who impersonated you? I guess it was an identity theft type situation. What did you think about that when you heard about that? Slick Rick: Ah what can you think, it’s a crazy world I mean what am I Diana Ross now? I’m getting stalkers what is this a joke, you know? What can you do. .It was rough for my wife you know because she’s just out here with her mother and her very old grandmother and it’s a bunch of women with no males around. Then you got this crazy guy who is digging in your account and trying to intimidate them, so it was scary for them. I felt for them, my […]

First Diddy ran the city, now the Bad Boy will run over to Broadway where he will star in a revival of “A Raisin in the Sun,” according to the New York Post. The hip-hop mogul reportedly auditioned for the part several times with the director, the casting director and an agent representing the estate of Lorraine Hansberry, the late playwright. The producer of the show was impressed with Diddy’s humility toward auditioning.”Most big stars won’t audition at all, but Sean was exactly the opposite,” David Binder said.Diddy will be billed under his birth name, Sean Combs, during the production, where he will star as Walter Lee Young. The character dreams of making it rich and escaping the ghetto, while often butting heads with his wife over what to do with an insurance check they’ve inherited.Sidney Poitier starred in the original production of the play, and also in the movie version that was adapted two years later. In recent years hip-hop has proliferated Broadway, as Mos Def starred in 2001’s Topdog/Underdog opposite Jeffery Wright, and Russell Simmons brought his successful HBO show Def Poetry Jam to the famous New York street.Though Combs has no live theatre experience, he has appeared in the independent film “Made” as well as “Monster’s Ball,” which garnered him critical praise for his performance.”A Raisin in the Sun” will be directed by Kenny Leon and most likely open at the Shubert Theatre in April. No other roles in the play have been filed as of yet.

Bush And Cheney: Don’t Let Them Hustle Us!

Well, as some of us expected, Saddam Hussein has been caught. After months of searching and billions of our dollars being spent, Bush finally caught the man who tried to kill his daddy. I am telling hip-hop plain and simple: Don’t let them hustle us. If you watch television close enough and not from an entertainment point of view, you can see what Mr. Bush is doing. Mr. Bush’s regime is a corrupt one, labeled a fine example of cash and carry government. So what he caught Saddam? Now what? Try him as a war criminal, put him to death. So what? Is that going to bring back the almost 500 soldiers who died? Will it allow Vice-President Cheney to continue to stuff his pockets to the tune of $67 million dollars? Halliburton, the company Cheney was the CEO of and supposedly severed his ties with, has the most lucrative contracts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Don’t let them believe that we are not sophisticated. Bush and Cheney are hustling us. Its happened since they stole the election in Jeb Bush’s state of Florida. Bush’s brother’s state? Come on it’s not obvious? What about 9-11? How much did Bush know? Who cares? If we have a president that makes us ask the question, he shouldn’t be president! Enron? Revolved around the oil. The biggest bankruptcy in corporate U.S. history, thousands of people lose their lifetime savings, the company greased the palms of almost every politician in Washington, including Bush. The company hails from the same state Bush governed (Texas) and then goes belly up, effecting our entire economy. And they still haven’t brought any charges against the CEO, and Bush confidant, Kenneth Lay. Don’t fall for it, we are being hustled. There’s the sticky issue of Bush’s agency leaking the name of a covert CIA operative. Isn’t he accountable for anything? Again, if we have these questions about the man who’s face represents us all over the world, he’s not the right leader for anyone. How about Bush’s tax breaks that line the pockets of people who are already wealthy, yet millions of American’s are overcharged by greedy hospitals and can’t afford health insurance? How about Margie Schoedinger, who accused Bush of rape? She just recently "killed herself." I don’t know if her allegations were true, but are these the allegations you want floating around your president? What happened to the weapons of mass destruction? Or the proof of who pulled off 9-11? We honor Condoleeza Rice because she’s probably the most powerful African-American woman. She’s a classically trained pianist, she’s brilliant. But she’s not one of us. Don’t forget…Ms. Rice served on the board of Chevron, a company that was created by John Rockefeller’s Standard Oil trust. She even reportedly has an oil tanker named after her. Don’t forget that Bush senior was the head of the CIA. Read about the October Surprise. Don’t forget that while he was vice-prez with Reagan, the CIA reportedly introduced crack cocaine to African-American communities. And then they declared a "war" on drugs. Is the war really on drugs? Sure there are going to be people that will scoff at this idea. I’m not going to go into detail on that, do the research yourself, come to your own conclusions, whatever that is. But learn something. What about the Anthrax scare? Isn’t anyone going to get arrested? Did we forget that already? What happened to the domestic terrorist that perpetrated these acts? The timing is too perfect: elections are coming up, too many scandals, too many dead soldiers. The timing is conveniently good for Bush and everyone will forget about all the crap he’s been engaged in. Hip-Hop lovers have been saying for a long time that Bush’s coming into office was an ominous sign of the times. And then they throw us Saddam, so that we forget and unite around a common theme. Read Daniel Yergin’s history of the oil game, "The Prize" and you start to realize just what game these oil men are playing. For my hip-hop conspiracy kooks out there, this one isn’t a conspiracy book, but hey, maybe you kooks are on the right track. It’s includes the story of your favorites: The Rockefellers, The Rothschilds, The Nobles, The Mellons, etc. They’ve been hustling us for a long time. I know the world isn’t perfect and neither are our "leaders." I am not anti-government. And believe me I support the troops. A friend of mine I grew up with, Omar, is in Saddam’s hometown of Tikrit. I know the benefits of the society I live in. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have a right to voice our opinion’s on matters, even if we have opposing views. I’m not saying go vote democratic, republican or anything. I am saying believe nothing, question everything and do something. Communicate with each other. They sure are. They don’t seem to care that Bush may have been arrested in 1972 on cocaine charges, only to have them expunged from his record, but they sure are interested in your finances. Bush just signed a bill that allows the FBI to check out all kinds of financial records, without court approval. Put down the violent video games for a minute. Turn off the violent music for a minute, stay away from the violent movies for awhile. That’s where "they" want you. Confused. Make it a point to learn something new everyday. If you walk in your house and all of your furniture is gone, just because you don’t have the names of the thieves that robbed you, doesn’t mean you haven’t been robbed. You may not have the details on Bush and Cheney’s doings, but look around. You don’t need the details. People…we don’t have to settle for what the Bush regime is doing. We have to figure out how to change some of these things. A little sleep, a little slumber, the folding of your hands to rest…so shall your poverty come upon you […]

Fat Joe Denies Fight With Cuban Link

Contrary to published reports, Fat Joe denies being involved in a scuffle with Cuban Link in a Miami nightclub on Saturday night. In fact, the Bronx rapper said he is currently out of the country with his family for the holidays.”This incident the websites are reporting on never occurred,” Fat Joe said in a statement released to AllHipHop.com. “This is a publicity stunt from Cuban Link. If Cuban would spend more time marketing his current product he’d have less time to make up false accusations…oh I forgot he’s never had an album out to market.”Though Joe called the report a promotional ploy, Cuban Link’s manager stated the report is true. He also clarified it did not occur at a nightclub.Dren Starr of CLK Management said the two rappers went toe-to-toe in front of the hotel where he, Cuban Link, and their entourage were staying.”It was around 5:30 in the morning, the strip was crazy empty and Joe rolled up in his range,” Starr told AllHipHop.com.Starr said Fat Joe stepped out of the car and started yelling at Cuban Link, refuting the claims that he set up his former protégé.Before Joe could reach Cuban, however, Starr said the Cuban rushed the Terror Squad leader.Police quickly subdued the situation within a matter of minutes, according to Starr. He said police, club owners, and everyone in general area knew that the feuding rappers were both in town at the same time.Fat Joe reportedly attended at party Ja Rule threw at Bermuda Bar, while Cuban Link was at Club Zno after a show with a local Miami rapper, Starr stated. Joe declined further comment.Starr insisted the attack was a premeditated plan. He said his entourage flew in to Miami from New York and weren’t prepared to handle a situation like the one that occurred Saturday night.Starr then added that Fat Joe doesn’t fly, explaining that he and those with him were in a better position to assault Cuban Link with weapons. The Miami Police Department is still investigating the incident, as a local newspaper reported the county is undecided whether to file charges against any of the parties involved.

Trick Daddy Appearance Draws Complaints

Trick Daddy’s appearance at an annual party held by the city of Miami for underprivileged children drew criticism because of the rapper’s checkered past. The children were invited to the party by the Mayor of the city, Manny Diaz, who wanted to make up for an event that never happened, when a promoter took off with a group of children’s field trip money.”Well, we, I suppose, we have a lot of people in this community who in the past have gotten in trouble with the law and now they want to give something back,” Diaz told Miami’s Channel 10 News.Trick Daddy is waiting to go on trial for drug possession after he was arrested in late September at a high school football game and charged with cocaine and marijuana possession. In February, the rapper was arrested after allegedly pulling a gun during a game of basketball.Trick said that despite his past, he was dedicated to the children.”It’s for the underprivileged kids you know, and I was once an underprivileged child, you know … So, Trick love the kids,” Trick Daddy added.Police are still searching for David Ellisor, the man who originally scammed the children.
