(AllHipHop News) Most people still know him as Mos Def, but the man who now professionally goes by Yasiin Bey took it back to his pre-name change days when he performed at The Shrine in Chicago recently.
The G.O.O.D. Music member debuted the previously unreleased song “The Light is Afraid of the Dark” during the show. The Kanye West produced track was originally planned to be on Bey’s third studio album, True Magic, released in 2006, but it did not make the final tracklist.
True Magic featured production mostly by Minnesota and Preservation with a couple of tracks produced by Mos Def himself.
Bey and West have worked together numerous times including “Two Words” off The College Dropout, “Drunk And Hot Girls” off Graduation, and “Lord, Lord, Lord” from the G.O.O.D. Friday series.
Kanye also produced Mos Def’s “The Rape Over” and “Sunshine” from his The New Danger album.
Yasiin Bey has been in the studio working with legendary southern Hip-Hop producer Mannie Fresh for his next LP which is tentatively titled OMFGOD, and there has been talk for years that Bey will hook back up with his Brooklyn counterpart Talib Kweli for a follow-up to their classic collaborative album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star.
