(AllHipHop News) Queensbridge native Nas has announced a joint venture to own urban media company, Mass Appeal, investing a “six-figure sum” into the company.
Other investors on the endeavor include Pusha T, record label/creative agency DECON, and an international firm, White Owl Capital.
Moving into online content, the media group is expecting to expand from print to an online publication, with Nas serving as Mass Appeal’s associate publisher.
Mass Appeal was founded in 1996 and shut down in 2008, before being revived by the current team earlier this year.
Seeking to include web video, photography, social, print and live experiences, Mass Appeal YouTube account features behind the scenes of the magazine, the “Time Pieces” series of short videos from Jason Goldwatch, and more.
“While we embrace all things hip-hop (as it is part of our heart and soul), we stand for (and have always stood for) creative instigation,” said publisher Peter Bittenbender, who is also the CEO of DECON. “Music and its influence is such a massive part of our creative equity along with street art and fashion.”
