Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Explains Wearing Kente Cloth Wrap Seen In Photos

YASIIN BEY: THIS WRAP IS WHAT I’M COMFORTABLE IN AT HOME

(AllHipHop News) The Twittersphere had a lot to say this weekend when a picture of Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) wearing what was being described as a “skirt” hit the net. Mail & Guardian reports that Bey addressed the attire recently while in South Africa.

When the rapper/actor, who now lives in Cape Town, South Africa, was asked “Where’s your skirt from?” Bey responded, “It’s a wrap from Ghana” adding it is “what I’m comfortable in at home.”

Bey moved to Cape Town last May and has stated he plans to remain there. He recently spoke as the keynote speaker at the city’s Music Exchange Conference.

“There are some beautiful places in America. I love Brooklyn. New York City needs to thank Brooklyn every day just for existing,” stated Bey. “That’s how I feel about it. It was a hard thing to leave home. But I’m glad I did.”

The “Umi Says” performer announced his “Time Is Always Now” concert series earlier this year. The year-long event will present new Bey material in several locations throughout the African continent.
