Jurors took two days to determine Robin Thicke and producer Pharrell violated the rights of the late Marvin Gaye and now must pay $7.4 million.
The copyright case stated that the pair essentially stole the sound of Marvin Gaye’s#### song “Got To Give It Up.” The proceedings took place in Los Angeles.
T.I., who is also in the suite, was exonerated.
The financial burden broke down as follows: $4 million in damages to the Gaye family, $1.6 million from Pharrell and a little over $1.7 million from Robin Thicke. Another $9,375 were awarded in statuary damages.
Nona Gaye, daughter of Marvin, said “Right now I feel free from Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams’ chains. The said the verdict was “a miracle.:”
