(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper/actor Tip “T.I.” Harris is making it clear he will not be silent on politics during the age of Donald Trump.
After warning black celebrities like Kanye West, Ray Lewis, and Steve Harvey about attending meetings with the President-Elect, Tip also used his Instagram page to defend a Civil Rights Movement icon against Trump’s recent tweets.
Congressman John Lewis launched a nationwide discussion when the onetime chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s election because of the Russian hacks.
Lewis also announced he would not be attending the Presidential Inauguration on Friday.
Trump fired back by referring to Lewis’ Atlanta-area congressional district as “falling apart” and claiming the Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient was “all talk, talk, talk – no action or result.”
Overnight, T.I. posted a message on IG in response to a video of Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed showing support for Rep. Lewis and the city.
He wrote:
Well Kasim… Maybe it’s our predominantly black Govt. Or our thriving community of self sufficient Black athletes, rappers, producers, actors, DJ’s, directors, celebrities, executives, real estate developers & entrepreneurs who’ve worked their way to Multi-Millionaire-Legendary status in spite of the narrow-minded oppressive thoughts of our neighbors only 45mins-1hr away in any given direction. Maybe it’s because we’ve created our own platforms & vehicles that empowered US & allowed US to bypass their approvals & validations. Or maybe he was confronted with an uncomfortable truth that put his back against the wall & he just blurted out (or tweeted out) the first piece of BS his thumbs could muster. Either way… Congressman John Lewis, I stand with you…. as YOU ALL should!!! #ThatWay #ThisOurCity
