BET Picks Up 50 Cent Comedy Show, Death Row Docuseries, Bobby Brown Biopic & ‘The Breaks’

THE CABLE CHANNEL IS ADDING SEVERAL HIP HOP THEMED PROGRAMS TO ITS LINEUP

(AllHipHop News) BET is looking to highlight Hip Hop culture in its upcoming season of programs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable network announced its upfront slate which includes several new shows.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is set to host BET’s first variety comedy showcase titled 50 Central.

Sketches, hidden-camera pranks, musical performances, and celebrity guests will be part of 50’s latest TV venture.

BET is also set to air the six-hour docuseries Death Row Chronicles which will explore the rivalries and triumphs associated with the iconic Death Row Records.

Following the huge success of The New Edition Story, BET will now focus on NE member Bobby Brown with the four-hour biopic The Bobby Brown Story.

In addition, The Breaks is moving from one Viacom-owned station to another.

The second season of the 1990’s Hip Hop drama – starring Mack Wilds, Afton Williamson, and Wood Harris – is now part of the BET lineup after earning record ratings for VH1.

VH1’s Hit The Floor, the Kevin Hart-produced dramedy Divorce Saved My Marriage, and season 2 of The Quad have been picked up by BET as well.

“Over the last 37 years, BET has cultivated a deep and lasting relationship with our viewers, as we remain the premiere destination for lovers of African-American culture,” said BET CEO Debra Lee. “This year, we are saying yes to all things black, with more premium original programming and best-in-class tentpoles that reflect and invigorate our viewers.”
