20 Years Later Brandy, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and Queen Latifah Reunite For "I Wanna Be Down" Remix - AllHipHop

20 Years Later Brandy, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and Queen Latifah Reunite For “I Wanna Be Down” Remix

BRANDY, MC LYTE, YO-YO, QUEEN LATIFAH REUNITE FOR “I WANNA BE DOWN” REMIX

Twenty years after Brandy’s debut single “I Wanna Be Down” was remixed with rappers MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and Queen Latifah, all four ladies reunited on the Queen Latifah Show Tuesday to celebrate the classic hit single’s anniversary.  Queen Latifah talks about how hearing MC Lyte’s verse made her rewrite her rhymes, and Yo-Yo stated that after hearing both MC Lyte and Queen Latifah’s verse she felt the need to tweak and change her verse a couple times. A young Brandy (15 at the time) expressed that she had no idea what the female rap idols were rapping about, but she was just excited that they jumped on the track. “I was so star struck,” says Brandy. “I was a total groupie with you [Queen Latifah], MC Lyte, and Yo-Yo, and I wasn’t shy about it. To work with these women I had grown up watching was a total dream come true.”

Queen Latifah also shared that Yo-Yo’s verse made her do some research on the low-riding culture to learn what “pancaking” was. She also lets everyone know that Yo-Yo was the First Lady of West Coast Rap. Check out the clips below.
