Ash Minor From “The Four” Details Plans After TV Fame

Australian artist Ash Minor is hoping to make a big impact on the music business in the United States.

Ash Minor is an urban rockstar, with goals of being the biggest artist in the world.

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia but arriving in Los Angeles two years ago, the singer-songwriter is trying to pave a new way, mixing in urban music, rock music, soul, blues, and everything in between.

It was the moment Ash got booked for a gig at a jazz club in Hollywood that he knew this music thing was his end-be-all.

AllHipHop caught up with Ash Minor at The Basement series in Los Angeles to talk about his budding career.

AllHipHop: Bring us back to the days on The Four. What was your fondest memory?

Ash Minor: I was only in LA for about a month when I went on The Four and that was a product of going down to all these clubs and playing. One of the scouts was in the audience, he’s like “wanna come on the show?” I said no. [chuckles] I said no three times. I wanted to find my footing and settle the dust in LA before I did that.

But the deal was right. They changed the contract for me and gave me a lot of creative freedom. I said to them “if you still let me push my envelope with what I want to do and we can meet in the middle,” and they did that. That’s why I came out of it positively. A lot of artists go on the shows and get lost in the process because they don’t have enough conviction with their independence to put their stipulations on it. If you’re an artist, you don’t compromise your art for nobody.

AllHipHop: What are some goals yourself as an artist at this point of your career?

Ash Minor: My goal is to be the best rockstar in the world, s##t. [chuckles] I’m never gonna putAsh Minor: a limit. I want to be one of the best live performers in the world. I’d love one of the biggest artists in the world. I want to unify culture.

I want to be a cultural icon, not just a musical icon. There’s so much stigma attached to these different genres now trying to blend together, but I want to show that culturally you can meet in the middle. There doesn’t have to be no difference.

AllHipHop: Who’s the most played artist on your phone?

Ash Minor: I really love Ty Dolla $ign. I’d love to collaborate with Ty$ because he’s such an incredible musician. I like Anderson .Paak too. I like artists who are musicians because coming from a musical standpoint, you can really tell when an artist is arranging their own music too.

Someone from my management end up in a session with Ty$ quite a few years ago, he said he played him some of his archived work that’s never going to come out and it was f##king sick. He said it was some jam stuff, it was f##king incredible.

AllHipHop: Best encounter you had with a fan?

Ash Minor: I mean, I’m hoping one day a fan tattoo my logo on them. That’s a vibe, but I’m not there yet. You down? [chuckles] I’m joking.

AllHipHop: What can we expect from you music-wise?

Ash Minor: We got my first EP called Conflict of Interest Vol. 1. It’s actually done, we’re in the mixing and mastering process. It’s a hybrid between rock music, urban music, a bit of R&B, soul, blues.

It’s like what’s my modern spin and my digestive interpretation of what rock music is? We’re doing something different, it’s really going to spearhead the new wave. I want to be at the pinnacle of that when it happens.
