(AllHipHop News) Drake is making sure the industry knows he’s coming for the crown in his cover story for XXL’s 150th issue.
In the interview, the Toronto native spoke on the difficulty to be in competition with his idols such as Kanye West, before relenting to take on all challengers:
It’s tough for me. That’s a guy I can’t pretend not to like. He’s the guy to me, in a lot of ways. That’s Kanye West. But I’m also here to be the best. I’m here to surpass. I’m here to outdo. I’m ready for whatever with anybody.
The man with the most Hip-Hop/R&B number one records ever (accomplished in three years) told XXL he surveyed the music landscape of 2013 and initially felt as if Nothing Was The Same would get overshadowed by big releases from Kanye West and Jay-Z. But according to him things did not “pan out” the way he worried they would:
I think I am going for it, to really establish what are murmurs or things being said quietly, “Um, I think that Drake might actually…” On September 17th I want people to be like, “Oh, we were right.”
