(AllHipHop News) Billboard counts YouTube views on its charts. MTV stopped being M(usic) television a decade ago. In one of the most preordained moves in recent memories, YouTube will hold its first ever Music Video Awards.
The inaugural award show will celebrate the most viewed YouTube videos over the past year based on global music-video views and shares. The nominations will be released on October 17th and fans will be able to vote through social media after the nominations are made. A few big name performers have already been announced. According to Variety, Eminem and Lady Gaga are set to perform at the event.
Filmmaker Spike Jonze, who will be the award show creative director promises the event will “feel like a YouTube video itself”:
We’re getting together a group of amazing artists and filmmakers to do this live — tune in to see what happens live.
The award show will feature performances from all over the globe including Moscow, Seoul, London and Brazil.
The award show will be a live event at New York City’s Pier 36 on Sunday November 3rd. Eminem’s highly anticipated upcoming album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 will be released on November 5th. In 2010, Eminem’s video for “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna broke YouTube’s single day view record by gaining over 6.6 million views in 24 hours.
