(AllHipHop News) What’s beef? Beef is when you won’t sing to support beef. According to a suit filed Friday (March 7th), Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle sued Frank Ocean for failing to sing in a Chipotle commercial after agreeing.
The suit alleges that Ocean was set to record a song entitled “Pure Imagination” for the Chipotle ad and in July of 2013 was paid $212,500 with the rest coming after the song’s completion.
According the suit, Ocean was under the impression that the animated ad was meant to promote local foods and denounce industrial farming. Chipotle showed Frank a rough draft of the commercial that was “80 percent” finished and had no Chipotle logo. Ocean backed out of his involvement on August 7th, 2013 and a week later, his camp sent a letter to Chipotle explaining Ocean’s decision:
When Frank was asked to participate in this project, Chipotle’s representatives told him that the thrust of the campaign was to promote responsible farming. There was no Chipotle reference or logo in the initial presentation, and Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign. Frank was also promised that he’d have the right to approve the master and all advertising.
Chipotle has denied all of Ocean’s allegations and is suing the singer for $212,500.
