LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant will be wearing a special edition version of their signature shoes when they hit the court in Orlando for the NBA’s All-Star Game on February 26.
The galactic-themed shoes pay homage to Florida’s Kennedy Space Center and are inspired by NASA spacesuits and astronauts. These influences are easily noticed through each shoe’s glow in the dark outsole, mission patch, and coloring.
James’ “LeBron 9” is a bright orange color that resembles the “pumpkin” pressure suits worn by astronauts during the launch and re-entry process.
Durant’s “Zoom KD IV” is inspired by the late Oklahoma astronaut, Gordon Cooper, who wore a silver Mercury speedsuit.
Bryant’s “Zoom Kobe VII System” incorporates the space theme differently to James and Durant’s sneakers as it features supernova-type imagery as seen from a telescope.
In addition to the James, Durant, and Bryant signature models, Nike is also releasing the popular Foamposite One in a supernova special edition colorway, as well as space-themed special editions of the Nike Dunk and Nike Flight One.
Nike will release these special edition kicks on the Saturday of All-Star weekend (February 25) on www.nike.com.
