While Madea has been extremely good to Tyler Perry, and vice versa, parenthood changes folks.
Such was the case when it came down to Perry’s decision to jump on the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows” wagon as the long suffering mad scientist “Baxter Stockman.”
“My son getting an opportunity to see me do something other than ‘Madea,’ this sounds really, really good,” stated Perry with a smile.
Perry is not only the head of a sizable entertainment empire, but also a vastly successful multi-hyphenate actor, producer, screenwriter, playwright, author and songwriter.
He was ranked by Forbes in 2011 as the highest paid man in entertainment, having earned a whopping $130 million USD between May of 2010 to May 2011.
So it makes sense that where Perry decides to spend his time is an issue of some serious debate and focus.
Nevertheless, when it came to lending his talents to legendary producer Michael Bay for these underground comic book characters that Perry himself had an affinity for as a child, it didn’t take a village to come up with the final answer.
“After very little debate, I thought, ‘I gotta be a part of this,’” said Perry.
As for co-star Megan Fox, who returns in this second TMNT installment as the ever popular April O’Neil, Perry had some funny memories.
Tyler Perry recalled scenes where their characters collided from opposing sides of the battle for humanity and New York city.
“She’s a beautiful, beautiful woman,” said Perry regarding Fox, adding, “there’s this one moment where she and I are together and I’m flirting with her. I thought it was just hysterical – this whole (idea) that – that girl would be interested in somebody like Baxter – was really really interesting. But she’s awesome.”
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows” stars Megan Fox, Stephen Arnell, Will Arnett, Tyler Perry, Brian Tee, Alan Ritchson, Sheamus, Noel Fisher, Gary Anthony Williams, Johnny Knoxville, Jeremy Howard, Laura Linney and Brittany Ishibashi.
The movie opens nationwide in theaters on June 3, 2016.
