(AllHipHop News) Early this week, AllHipHop.com spoke with newly signed artist Rockie Fresh about his new Maybach Music Group (MMG) deal, his growth over the course of his tour, and his feelings about the Electric Highway project he’s been working on as of late.
Joined by Phil Ade, Casey Veggies, Dom Kennedy, Los, YP, Skeme, and others, Rockie Fresh headlined the Key Club in Los Angeles for fans, media, and friends, performing an hour-long set.
“This is my first headlining tour, newest member to MMG, just getting acclimated to some new aspects of life, just working. I’m here to work,” Rockie Fresh told AllHipHop.com.
“I feel like I got a lot to prove. I feel like it’s a lot of new fans that I got due to the situation, but the sky is the limit. With me, being part of such a powerful team, it’s like time for me to turn up, you feel me?,” he added. “I’m just ready for people to see why Ross did what he did, and show people some real classic Chicago music.”
When asked if he felt any pressure to perform under the magnifying glass of MMG, Rockie Fresh said the signing has “motivated him.”
“This was one of the most reassuring things that happened to me. It’s just now I’m motivated, and its what we gonna do,” he said.
Rockie Fresh’s first visual under the MMG imprint, for the song “You A Lie” featuring label head Rick Ross, is a remix to the track from his Driving 88 project and is currently playing on BET’s “106 & Park.”
He explained, “It’s one of these things where now I got some resources, you feel me? I was making Driving 88 with my homies in Chicago, and we were really trying to make ends meet – even musically, you know what I’m saying? So, now that I got my deal with a little bit of a budget, I can turn my music up.
“But then also my story has a little bit of ending to it because I started as an independent artist, and now getting this deal with MMG, I feel like the story to that could be some sort of motivation. So, it’s more so me talking about that. I experienced a lot more since Driving 88, but it’s still that bobbing feel and that futuristic joint.”
