(AllHipHop News) As Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid m.A.A.d. City steadily approaches platinum status, Kendrick Lamar has been busy on the road hitting tour date after tour date, making guest appearances across the country.

One of those stops was at a Rhode Island High School as part of Kendrick’s participation in the “Get Schooled” campaign, encouraging kids to stay in school and show up to class.

Kendrick made his stop in Providence, RI to visit Mt. Pleasant High School after the school won a competition by increasing their attendance by 4%.

During the visit Kendrick met students, visited classrooms and participated in a school wide assembly.

Get Schooled has focused on attendance as an important factor in student performance as it’s one of the best predictors of high school graduation rates and college readiness.

While at Centennial High School in Los Angeles, Lamar was the first in his family to graduate from high school, and did so with a 4.0 GPA.

“Without education you don’t have anything,” said Kendrick Lamar. “My teachers were great positive influences in my life. My middle school English teacher was probably the reason I became a rapper. He used to encourage me to write poetry and would challenge me, which helped me improve my vocabulary and made me enjoy writing.”

Mount Pleasant High School is one of just a handful of middle and high schools in the nation that “Get Schooled” is recognizing for its attendance gains.
