(AllHipHop News) On March 7th, the iconic Carnegie Hall will be drenched in Purple Rain as over 20 artists will pay tribute to Prince’s decorated 35+ year career in a benefit concert. This concert is apart of a series presented by Knitting Factory founder, Michael Dorf which has included tributes to R.E.M, Elton John and the Rolling Stones.
The myriad of performers cover numerous genres with the likes of Talib Kewli, D’ Angelo and The Roots joining Elvis Costello, Blind Boys of Alabama and even comedian Maya Rudolph amongst many others. In a statement, Dorf explains why Prince was chosen as the newest recipient:
“Prince is one of the most prolific songwriters in my collection, and he makes my Top 10 when I think about the artists who have truly shaped modern music.”
The benefit concert series is meant to provide funding for music education and a few of the beneficiaries for the Prince edition include Grammy In Schools, The Center for Arts Education, The American Symphony Orchestra and Young Audiences New York. Seated ticket prices range from $48 to $150. However, the VIP packages include joining the entire lineup onstage during the encore, backstage acces as well as entrance into the after-party at Dorf’s City Winery and are in three pricing tiers ($299, $1,999 and $10,000).
Tickets can be purchased on the event’s website at carnegieprince.com and at the Carnegie Hall box office at 881 7th Avenue in New York City.
