Atlanta, Georgia
based rapper Baby D has inked a multi-million dollar deal with Epic Records.
The 18-year-old rapper has moved over 100,000 CD’s independently through his
record label, Big Oomp records, also based in Atlanta.
"I look forward
to bringing what I’ve done in this region to the rest of the world," Baby
D told AllHipHop.com. "I am happy Epic won the bidding war for me and am
humbled by the amount of money and the effort made by Big Oomp Records and Epic
Records on my behalf."
Baby D has been
one of the hottest independent acts from the south, with the release of his
albums Lil Chopper Toy and Off Da Chain.
Baby D had been
negotiating with several labels, but signed the deal when former Def Jam A&R
Selim Bouab landed at Epic.
"I wanted
to sign him when I was at Def Jam," Bouab added. "Basically I chased
Baby D for over a year until I had the right situation to offer him. It was
definitely worth the wait."
Baby D said where
the majority of successful rappers are approaching their thirties, he is looking
forward to bringing youth and vitality back to the rap industry.
"It’s obvious
that with the success of B2K, Lil Bow Wow, and Romeo that being young is fashionable,"
Baby D pointed out. "I can sell units like the older veterans, and am poised
to have the success of the new young guys coming up."
