(AllHipHop News) Roc Nation’s Ahmad “Belly” Balshe is unapologetic about his performance at the Canada 150 festival.
The Palestine-born, Ottawa-raised recording artist was hit with some criticism for using profanity during his set.
Even the City of Toronto offered an official apology via social media.
“The #CityofTO apologizes for the inappropriate content during tonight’s closing performance at Nathan Phillips Square,” tweeted Toronto’s Special Events Twitter account on July 4.
Belly took to his own Twitter page to respond.
“That’s the beauty of living somewhere with REAL freedoms,” wrote the “Consuela” spitter. “F-ck censorship forever.”
He ended the second tweet with the middle finger emoji.
Belly also joked, “[Family Guy character] Consuela loved the show, that’s all that matters.”
The XO affiliate later quoted Eminem’s lyrics from “Who Knew.”
“I don’t got that bad of a mouth, do I? F-ck.. Sh-t.. Ass.. B-tch.. C###.. Shooby-de-doo-wop! Skibbedy-be-bop” – Marshall Mathers,” posted Belly.
In addition, Toronto officials provided a statement that read, “As per contracts, the city expects all artists to deliver G-rated, family-friendly shows suitable for all ages.”
Belly issued a reaction to the city’s claim that he was expected not to use obscenities at the Canada Day event.
“Organizers were made aware that I would be swearing during my show before I even flew into Toronto,” said the 33-year-old songwriter in a statement.
He added, “They will never censor my art.”
