(AllHipHop News) OutKast’s Big Boi is set to return with his first solo album in five years.
The Boomiverse project reportedly includes features from Gucci Mane, Killer Mike, Jeezy, Travis Scott, and Kurupt.
Before Big Boi drops his third LP this summer, the ATLien performed the single “Mic Jack” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Sleepy Brown was also at the late night program to lend a hand for the music set backed by The Roots.
In addition, Big Boi was asked about writing “Mic Jack” during a backstage interview.
“The ‘Mic Jack’ record came about as we were working on this Boomiverse record. We did something a little different this time,” said Big Boi. “Me and Ray [Murray] from Organized Noize went out to California to work with some outside producers.”
DJ Dahi of Los Angeles contributed to the track before Big Boi’s Atlanta-based team added 808s and a hook to the song.
Eventually, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 was tapped to sing the chorus.
Frequent Big Boi collaborator Janelle Monáe was considered for the song’s outro before they went with songwriter Taylor Parks for that section.
Monáe is expected to appear on another Boomiverse track.
Big Boi’s last solo body of work was 2012’s Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors.
He also released the collaborative EP Big Grams with Phantogram in 2015.
