The Black Panther Party has launched a record
label, Black Panther Records, which focuses on putting out socially conscious
rap music.
The party aims to spread their message via rap
Oakland rap group F.U.G.I.T.I.V.E.S, who released their album All Of Us. F.U.G.I.T.I.V.E.S
stands for The Future Under the Guidance of True Individuals Who Visualize Every
Struggle.
The Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland
during the turbulant 1960’s The Panthers by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. The
group served as a revolutionary counter to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message
of non-violence.
In addition to the record label, the Black Panther
Party has a clothing with Panther slogans and images as well as a software company,
that is compiling almost 13,000 pages of Panther newspapers into volumes.
Seale, the co-founder of the group, recently
moved back to Oakland and is working on a revised edition of his cookbook, "Barbeque’n
with Bobby Seale," as well as taping a cooking show for public television.
