(AllHipHop News) The king of Wakanda is officially the king of all superheroes when it comes to ticket revenue. Black Panther has now made more than $630 million in North America, surpassing fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe hit The Avengers’ $623 million in 2012.
Ryan Coogler’s box office smash also reached several other milestones throughout its theatrical run. The film also holds the records for highest grossing February opening weekend, highest grossing movie for an African-American director, most tweeted about movie ever, and more.
Black Panther brought in $202 million in its opening weekend and currently has a worldwide gross over $1.2 billion. It now sits at #5 on the all-time domestic box office list, not adjusted for inflation.
The movie stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Martin Freeman, and Andy Serkis. A sequel has already been greenlighted by Marvel Studios.
