Chartwatch: Drake Nears Platinum and The Roots Come “undun”

DRAKE’S “TAKE CARE” NEARS PLATINUM & THE ROOTS CREATE MAGIC FOR THE 13TH TIME!

(Week Ending On 12/16/11)

Drake’s Take Care (YM/CM/Universal Rep.), dropped from to the #7 spot after selling 71,953 units in its fourth week. The album most likely will reach platinum status by this time next week, as it’s just under 10,000 copies away from reaching the mark. Today, Drake released the dates for his Club Paradise Tour, which will kick off in February with Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky.

The Roots 13th album, undun (Def Jam), sold 48,211 copies in week 1, debuting at #15 on the charts. You can read AllHipHop.com’s review of the legendary group’s album here.

T-Pain’s fourth album, rEVOLVEr (RCA/Nappy Boy/Konvict), debuted at #28 after it sold 34,245 in its first week. The album includes features from Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and Wiz Khalifa. Check out AllHipHop.com’s album review for rEVOLVEr, as well as our with T-Pain here.

Jay-Z and Kanye West’s, Watch The Throne (Roc-A-Fella/Roc Nation), fell from 19 spots to #50 after selling 21,927 copies in the past week. This week may mark the last time we see Kanye and Jay’s album in the Top 50, since it released in late August, but with their ongoing tour and Christmas shopping increasing, we aren’t counting them out just yet.

Lil Wayne’s double-platinum album, The Carter IV (YM/CM/Universal Rep.), dropped from #35 to the #46 spot this past week after selling 23,286 units.
