Some of Hip-Hop’s
leading minds will join Chuck D., and a variety of those involved in Public Enemy’s
1988 groundbreaking release, It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back,
to discuss the historical impact of the release.
On February 25th and 26th, The Clive Davis Department of Recorded
Music at NYU will bring together Chuck D., original group members, producers,
engineers, journalists and the original Def Jam executive team that worked the
record, to discuss how the album was made and the impact it has had pop culture.
Widely recognized as one of the most important Hip-Hop albums
ever recorded, the album helped usher in the era of politics in hip-hop, as
well as a new era for astute producers, who immediately locked on to the collective’s
unique sound.
Bill Adler, Harry Allen. Nelson George, Hank Shocklee, Keith
Shocklee, Lisa Cortes, Glen E. Friedman, Jon Caramanica, Chairman Mao and a
host of others will be participate in the event, which will kick off with a
screening of the Public Enemy documentary, “London Calling,” which
chronicles the group’s tours of the UK.
The event is free and open to the public and will take place
in the Tischman Auditorium. Seating is first come first served and picture ID
will be required to enter the building.
