(AllHipHop News) Roc Nation – the record label/management firm founded by Shawn “Jay Z” Carter – is extending its reach beyond just signing entertainers and athletes.
The New York-based company has announced political commentator and former Barack Obama advisor Van Jones has signed a deal with the Roc.
“Roc Nation stands for excellence, innovation and impact, and I am proud to join the family. To make positive change in today’s world, we must close the gaps that exist between artists and activists … cultural leaders and political leaders … taste-makers and changemakers,” stated Jones. “This partnership opens up the opportunity to do that on a global scale. It’s a bold, unprecedented move. And I’m both humbled and excited by the possibilities.”
Jay Z adds, “Van’s immense capacity for empathy builds bridges. He inspires dialogue and only through conversation and active listening, can true change occur. Roc Nation is honored to support and amplify every initiative.”
Jones recently launched The Messy Truth series on CNN.
In addition, the Yale-educated attorney is set to release his third book, Beyond The Messy Truth: How We Came Apart & How We Come Together, in October.
Previously, Jones penned the New York Times bestsellers The Green Collar Economy and Rebuild the Dream.
The new partnership with Jay’s company is said to be “cause-oriented, it will be justice-oriented, and it will promote innovative approaches that uplift people.”
Jones is set to take part in a tour this summer and fall that will support initiatives around education, the environment, and social justice.
Roc Nation is also the management home of Big Sean, DJ Khaled, DJ Mustard, Fabolous, Fat Joe, Mack Wilds, Meek Mill, Rihanna, The Lox, Yo Gotti, and others.
