Comedian Dave Chappelle
unexpectedly surfaced in Hollywood, appearing at two comedy theaters performing
unrehearsed.
According to industry trade
magazine Variety, Chappelle appeared at the Hollywood Improv and the Comedy
Store on Wednesday night, performing for small crowds.
The comedian had just arrived
from Los Angeles International Airport and told the crowds he was in the mood
to perform.
Many speculated about the
comedian’s mental well being, after he went missing during production
of the third season of “Chappelle’s Show.”
Chappelle came forward shortly
afterwards to rebuff published reports that he had checked into a South African
mental institution, although he was in South Africa.
“I’m not crazy, I’m
not smoking crack," Chappelle told Time magazine in an interview a little
over a week after Comedy Central indefinitely suspended the show. "I’m
not in a mental facility," said Chappelle. "I’m definitely stressed
out."
Chappelle later appeared
in his hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio. Shortly after Chappelle’s disappearance,
Comedy Central aired ads for “Chappelle’s Show No-Show Marathon.”
Published reports have stated
that the third season of the show will not air this year.
While the third season didn’t
premiere on time, Chappelle continues to experience phenomenal success. The
second season of the comedian’s “Chappelle Show” series set
a record for first day sales, moving over 500,000 copies.
The DVD also broke
the first week sales record, moving over 1.2 million copies.
