Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley Talks Working With Jay-Z On ‘4:44’ Album (VIDEO)

THE REGGAE STAR SITS DOWN WITH ‘SWAY IN THE MORNING’

(AllHipHop News) Earlier this year, photos surfaced on social media of Jay-Z with reggae artist Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley in a Jamaican studio.

Fans immediately began assuming some type of music with Jay and Marley was on the way.

It turned out the two musical giants did team up for “Bam” off the Brooklyn emcee’s 4:44 album.

However, the record was actually put together in the States.

Marley swung by Sway In The Morning to talk about working with Jay on the track.

“I was going to L.A. to shoot a video, and he knew I was going to be out there. That’s where he was working,” explained Marley. “So he hit me up and asked if I had a few hours to stop by the studio.”

When Damian arrived at the spot, Jay already had the idea for the hook to “Bam.”

“After doing the hook, he said, ‘Okay, you can do your thing on the beat for awhile.’ I was kind of freestyling on the beat,” Marley said. “Then they edited my freestyle and constructed what is my verse.”

4:44 is not the only example of cooperation between Damian Marley and Jay-Z.

In 2015, Jr. Gong was also announced as one of the artist-owners of Tidal, the streaming company fronted by Jay.

Marley also released his own new album today (July 21) titled Stony Hill.
