D’Angelo has reportedly pleaded guilty to marijuana possession
and driving under the influence of alcohol Wednesday (April 13), charges stemming
from a January traffic stop in Richmond, Virginia.
The Virginia-born R&B singer, whose real name is Michael
Eugene Archer, was fined $250 Wednesday (April 13) and ordered to a 90-day suspended
jail term for the DUI conviction, according to the Associated Press.
He was also fined $50 on the marijuana charge and given a 10-day
suspended jail term.
D’Angelo waived his preliminary hearing on another charge
of cocaine possession, which is a felony. The singer’s driver’s
license was suspended for a year for the DUI conviction and for an additional
six months for the marijuana charge.
When D’Angelo was pulled over in Richmond in January,
he was charged with driving under the influence. During a search of his vehicle,
authorities said they found marijuana and .029 grams of cocaine.
D’Angelo has appealed the marijuana and DUI convictions
to Chesterfield Circuit Court in what authorities called a strange legal move.
